Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

Looking at going to flight school. I've tried doing as much research as possible but it just isn't reliable info. Is anyone on here already a pilot that could offer some good advice?

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

What exactly is it that you want to know about it? I have connections that can answer a lot of questions on the subject.

One thing I can say is that two of my good friends who had commercial pilots licenses gave up their flying jobs to go to get their helicopter rating. They had heard that they would get a lot better jobs flying helicopters. They finished school and neither of them could find anything that matched what they were making flying fixed wing so they are both back at different fixed wing jobs.

are you kidding me?!?! I'm lucky they let me on a bike. Something with blades spinning that can lift off the ground, I'd be dead for sure

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

why would you want to fly a chopper, have you seen them crash, there is no such thing as an emergency landing. you either land or blow up.

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

I'm trying to find info on good/bad flight schools. From other boards it seems that a lot of the schools are all advertisement (as with anything) and I don't want to be mislead. I know helos don't pay as well as airlines, but it's hard to drop off skiers on a mountain fron 747's. I think flying will be as close an adrenalin rush as riding but no one will pay me to ride.

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

There are a lot of commercial pilot jobs that don't involve airlines. None of my friends that have commercial licenses fly jets. They either instruct, fly backcountry "bush pilot" type, cropdusters, charter, etc. The ultimate adrenaline rush is probably aerobatics. However, there isn't much that compares to the adrenaline rush of skiing for me.

You want an adrenaline rush from flying, become a western Idaho cropduster pilot. Little bitty fields with lots of trees, hills, and powerlines. I spent four years working for a cropdusting company. You have to be nuts to do that job. But they work 3 months of the year for a pretty decent yearly salary.

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

Well sloride I'm not that good, I have to pay to ride. even if I were great it still cost a lot of money to be on the track enough to be "seen" by someone who will pay. Slickwill, as for cropdusting I can't stop and backup. I want, in the end, to fly heliskiing operations. Maybe once I get into this feild I'll be taking you to the top of a mountain. I too love skiing, part of the reason I moved from Indiana (Bloomington) to Colorado. Jeff fill me in the night at the Express must have done wonders for you. As much BS as there is on this board I still respect a lot of what is said. I'm looking at a Utah Valley State College Aviation Degree Program. The flight school I'm looking at is Premier Helicopters based in CO Springs. Anyone with any info is greatly apprechiated.

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

One of my friends did a program at Utah State University. I have heard positive comments from people that I have met that are in the helo program in Caldwell, Idaho. I don't know the name of the place but the I have met a couple of the students and they had good things to say about the program.

Re: Anyone here a helicopter pilot?

Thanks for the link. The other school on the link, Silver State Helicopters, seems to be the one that has ruined many a pilot (from what I can tell on some other boards).
