earthlink switch to embarq

Okay first let me say I'm a freaking email admin at work and nothing that I can think of will work
Now my question
How the fuk do I get the embarq service to work with outlook express (shitty program I know but free and used by 99% of the world) you would think a simple google search would answer this fukin question but it doesn't. I have an email at work that explains everything but my webmail for work has shitty search features and I'm having no luck finding that damn email.
Does anyone know from the 1st to last step how to setup outlook to work with the new embarqmail.com addresses? I can receive but not send

9:30:32 PMYouI have an email address with you guys if its easier to send the directions that waywritetime()
9:31:00 PMJames F
1.) Open up Outlook Express. From the menu bar, select Tools, and then click on Accounts.
2.) In the window that appears, select the Mail tab and click Add and then Mail to begin the setup wizard.
3.) An Internet Connection Wizard will open and ask you to answer some simple questions to set up your mail account. First, type in your full name as you want recipients to see it. Click Next to continue.
4.) Type in your full e-mail address (i.e. [email protected]). Click Next to continue.
5.) Next, type in the incoming and outgoing mail servers. The incoming mail is a POP. In the field where it says Incoming Mail (POP, IMAP, HTTP) Server, type in pop.embarqmail.com, and in the field that says Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, type smtp.embarqmail.com. Click Next to continue
6.) Type in your full email address in the Account Name field (i.e. [email protected]). Then type in your password in the password field. If you want to have the program save your password, check the box for Remember Password. Click Next to continue. Click Finish to complete the setup wizard.
7.) This will bring you back to the Internet Accounts window, and you will see a new account listed as pop.embarqmail.com. Double click on that new account. This will open a new properties window.
8.) Click on the Servers tab and at the bottom of the window put a check next to "My server requires authentication".
9.) Click on the Settings button. This will open a new window.
10.) In that window select "Log on using", and in the Account Name field type your full Embarq email address (i.e. [email protected]). Type your password in the password field. If you want to have the program save your password, check the box for Remember Password. Click OK to continue.
11.) Click OK again, then close the Accounts window.

9:33:08 PM
Youthat is exactly how I have it setup. It will receive email but won't sendwritetime()
9:33:56 PMJames FWhat is the exact error you have?
9:34:23 PM
YouThe connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Embarq Email Address', Server: 'smtp.embarqmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0Ewritetime()
9:35:14 PMJames FInstead of making a new account in OE you just changed the settings in your old Earthlink setup, didnt you?
9:35:57 PM
Youyes I did. seemed the logical step due to the fact that regardless it should run off of these properties and I don't care to lose all my folder, contacts, emails.writetime()
9:36:45 PMJames FNo, you should not have done that. The settings I gave you will not work with the port settings from Earthlink.writetime()
9:36:50 PMJames FIn Outlook Express, go to Tools, Accounts, Mail tab and tell me what accounts you have listed.
9:38:16 PMYouaccount - Embarq Email Address. Type - Mail(default). Connection - Any Availablewritetime()
9:38:16 PMJames FYou will not lose your emails or addresses by deleting the account settings.writetime()

9:43:35 PM
YouI don't see this step when I follow the instructions I'm using outlook express 6 10.) In that window select "Log on using", and in the Account Name field type your full Embarq email address (i.e. [email protected]). Type your password in the password field. 9:47:20 PMYouno thank you. Thats all I needed help setting up. again I thank you. I still don't understand why i needed to start new instead of just changing the properties but I guess its just one of those things that you have to let go and just do. Again thanks for your helpwritetime()

Re: earthlink switch to embarq

It would make more sense if I did but its a PC running XP. hopefully google's web crawler will grab this so that when people do a search on how to fix it there will finally be a start to finish set of instructions.
