Re: 'Nother computer question

OK, once again, I am not a computer rocket scientist so this question has the potential to be quite absurd.

Is it OK to, and should I be, completely deleting the contents of my Norton protected recycle bin on a regular basis? I have been doing this for awhile, but I don't even know what all of the files are in there. Could I have deleted anything important? It certainly collects a lot of sh!t fairly quickly. Besides the obvious things that I know I have deleted, there are many other files that appear in there.

as long as you dont need a file in there, DELETE them. I clean mine out regularly.

Luck favors those who are prepared.
Are you smokin that stogie or is it smokin you?

Re: 'Nother computer question

Thank you sir! I'm just always nervous and leery about messing with file extensions that I have no idea as to what the hell they are. I haven't had any problems to this point, so I (kinda) figured I was safe.

Re: 'Nother computer question

Hmm, now that I'm on the subject of deleting stuff, the only other deletions I do on a regular basis are in I.E. In Internet Properties, I regularly purge things under 'Delete Cookies', 'Delete Files', and 'Clear History'. Are there other places I should be cleaning up (not talking about defragmentation)?

Re: 'Nother computer question

make sure you double-click ANYTHING with .exe to make sure you don't need it before you delete it.

Re: 'Nother computer question

OSIRIS, unless I put the .exe files in the recycle bin, there should be none there, right? Are all of the various files that end up in there just 'temp' files?

Re: 'Nother computer question

I'm just messin with ya. Any file that has an .exe extension on it (that you don't know what it is) should be scanned for viruses before you open it.

* What did I do to deserve that? *
After conquering the 'how to set the time on VCR quest'...... while clutching the vcr remote and aiming it at the microwave in a desperate attempt to stop the flashing 12:00 madness.. Bacchus stops to wonder through out the day wondering ' What did I do to deserve that??' and mutters to himself 'First the microwave then the recycle bin...'

Mean while....Back at the farm. Stegen is trying to figure out where the off-topic section has gone and trys to remember what his login password is after that one fatefull day he clicked 'clear passwords'

Conq wanders past the microwave and thinks 'Cockhole!!'
