Re: Web Cam advice

I haven't started looking yet, but I want to get a web cam.

For those of you that know and have experience, what should I look for, and do you know of any brands that are good?

Thanks,

HD

Re: Web Cam advice

I'm going to put a cam on my dog so I can see what he's doing during the day. Probably just need it to take 1 pic every so many sec/mins, but I would like to be able to stream w/ it also.

Re: Web Cam advice

You could go with an IP camera. They can be broadcasted over the web, and some of them even have a motorized base so that you can control the camera through the web interface(it's password protected of course) They can be hooked up anywhere there is a CAT5 jack. Neat stuff

Re: Web Cam advice

'On' your dog, or on your dog? I'm guessing you meant the latter, as in, not physically attached to your dog.

No, not 'on' my dog. That would be cool though. Could you imagine the site while he was licking his arse? Easy Pete....

Re: Web Cam advice

Yahoo Chat or IM, whatever you want to call it works great for this. Just get a standard webcam, I forget the brand I have, but it's usb. Then get yourself 2, yes count them, 2 yahoo id's. Use one for home, and one for wherever you are. For the home one, log into yahoo IM, and turn on the camera before you leave the house. Then go into yahoo IM properties and restrict the viewing of the camera to your other id.

When you are at work, you can bring up the Yahoo chat, and connect to your other id. You will be able to view your camera at home real time, and see what the old pooch is up to. If you have voice enabled, and a mic at work, you could talk to your dog. That should freak him out real good if you turned up the volume enough..

Re: Web Cam advice

I will probably use this as an exercise to try building a new thing. I will want other people to see it. Also, parts of Yahoo are firewalled at work. I may try your suggestion though. Sounds pretty slick.
