Re: Red Sox

Go YANKEES!
Long live the evil empire!

In Philly, the radio waves are completely flooded with talk about the guy in the stands who 'stole the Cubs' pennant from them.' I say BS! How about the blown double play? How about the suspect pitching? How about the Marlins bats coming alive? Sure, the foul ball guy cost them a sure out; Alou would clearly have caught the ball. However, the Marlins scored EIGHT F'in RUNS in the eighth innning; that guy didn't beat the Cubs last night; the Cubs themselves and the Marlins beat the Cubs.

Personally, I'm pulling for the Marlins tonight, because the Yankees should have an easier time with them than Chicago, and because all will be right in the world if Chicago and the Red Sox both lose. (You just CAN'T have the Cubs or Red Sox breaking their respective 'curses'; what would be the fun in that? What would happen then?)

I want to see the Sox win so the Cubbies can thrash them ! That's got to be the ultimate manifestation of the curse...

Of course, if the Yankees or the Marlins win, it's time for hockey season for me

Re: Red Sox

Wooooooooooooooooo!
...and the Yankees win! As if there was any chance Boston wouldn't find a way to lose...and that's what I meant before - with the stinkin' Cubbies and Red Sox gone home for the season, all is right in the world; the balance of the universe is maintained.

Now, to be honest, I'm actually more scared (for the Bombers) of Florida than I was of Boston...

I also told my wife that if the Yanks made it to the World Series, I was going to buy that projection TV I've been considering. In about the fifth inning, that didn't seem too likely, but now she's sweating it...

Re: Red Sox

It sucks. If both the Cubs and Red Sox had made it, that would have been an historic Series. I couldn't care less about another World Series featuring the financially overpowering Yankee$.

Is a paradigm worth 20 cents?

He should'a been pulled the first time the manager walked out.

I think it would not have mattered WHO was on the mound; the Yankees own the Red Sox, and you can count on the Red Sox to blow it. As a fan, I was nervous, but the little voice kept telling me the Yanks would find a way to make it happen.

As far as second guessing the decision to leave Pedro in the game, I'd ask who the Sox had in waiting that was any better? Granted, Pedro's arm may have been done for the night, but it's hard to fault the manager for leaving his best pitcher in the game.

Re: Red Sox

Pedro is one of the absolute best, but I think I'd be throwing every fresh pitcher I had out there in a game 7.

*edit, Taz got his in just before me*

Even against the best pitchers, MLB hitters usually adjust. Though you'd be stepping down in pure talent, at least a new face would come at you a different way and maybe keep the edge. Easy to say on this side of the fence, of course.

Re: Red Sox

You're right; it often takes hitters at least once through the lineup before they adjust from one pitcher to another. Many are suggesting the Sox should have put the knuckleballer back on the hill, as the Yankees had trouble hitting his stuff...

My heart sank a bit when Wells gave up that solo shot, but it was fun to see him come out of the pen.

Have you heard? Some movie company now has the rights for a movie based on that fan. Movie (most likely TV) will begin filming soon, aired next year. That poor fan is going to get a fat paycheck.
