So much for the 1st amendment. I think we are going to see the 2nd amendment come into play in our lifetimes.

Yep, our founding fathers put checks and balances in, and the second amendment is the ultimate balancer.

It looked like something you would see in a communist country. Ask your questions son but don't ask any tough ones please or we will shut you down.

Re: Freedom of speech, not in FL

I dont think this is a freedom of speech issue.
You dont have freedom to use someone elses microphone and/or harass at their meeting. He was free to go outside and voice his opinion.
People seem to think that freedom of speech entitles them to any medium - even those owned or organised by others.
There is a huge difference between "you cant say that" and "you cant say that here"

But I do think tazering the guy was over the top. He might be a trouble maker but that did seem an excessive response.

I was under a different impression when I saw the clip, I thought he was there to ask questions with permission. My error I guess.

Re: Freedom of speech, not in FL

This has made news headlines in Australia and probably all over the world. It's been reported that they are trying to get the police charged with assult which is stupid. Even if they got heavy handed you have to back their judgment, the guy got a bit of a buzz but it wares off pretty quick and he might think twice about gobbing off again.

Now from the outside looking in is their any truth in his questions? Was the Florida result rigged? Was Bush given Florida?

Backing them is the wrong thing to do. If the police are out of line, they need to be punished. If not, they think they have a license to do anything they want. The police are there to enforce the laws and they must follow the same laws as well. While they can break some laws, there are others they cannot.

The elections were done legally and to the letter. That is usually what is being called into question though.

Re: Freedom of speech, not in FL

He deserved what he got. He was being obnoxious, and resisted the police. I love seeing asshats get the taser. He was treading on everyone else's 1st amendment rights.

Quote:
He interrupted another student's question, and although Kerry had earlier said he was taking no more questions, he told Meyer he'd take his comments next. Kerry asked the police to allow Meyer to speak.

When it was his turn, Meyer first asked about the 2004 presidential election and followed with statements about whether President Bush should be impeached.

At that moment the microphone was turned off and police began to take Meyer out of the auditorium. Meyer then started to struggle with the officers.

As they pulled him toward the exit, Meyer broke free and tried to get away. At that point, six officers tackled Meyer to the ground and told him to roll over.

He continued to yell for help and a female officer warned Meyer if he did not stop he would be Tased. He kept yelling and one of the other officers gave the order to Tase him.

All the available videos clearly show him resisting. We don't know if he was under arrest when they came for him. They simply may have been ordered to remove him. He resisted, and was dealt with accordingly. And the Taser, without a cartridge attached is not much more than a localized stun. It doesn't harm you. People are making too big a deal out of this. I believe he was pulling another stunt.

Re: Freedom of speech, not in FL

The guy was there to get attention. The questions he was asking (other than the last one about the secret-squirell "Skull and Bones" organization) have all been asked before in appropriate forums. He was not giving Kerry a chance to answer his questions and he was being ridiculous. Public forums such as this one serve one purpose: to give people an opportunity to ask legitimate questions. This kid was trying to use it as a platform to present his theories. If you go to any of these things and don't let the speaker respond to your questions you are going to get cut off. He got cut off, reacted aggressively, was asked to leave and refused. I think he got what he asked for. The best part is that everyone in the world gets to listen to him scream like a little girl when they tazed him.

Did you see what God just did to you?
