Another Mass Shooting In the US

Yet another mass shooting in the US must raise some questions. What is the anti gun lobby going to say about this one? An officer of the law is meant to carry a gun after all. The rest of the world must be looking at the US and wondering what the? And how bad must it be for the officer / sniper who had to take down one of their own? What mess, it makes you wonder what pushes people over the edge, is it the culture of violence we seem to consume so readily these days? Movies, games, TV - media?

haven't heard of one today or in the last few weeks. You talking about the one at VT?

Deputy fired 30 shots from rifle in killing 6, officials say - CNN.com

Quote:
Twenty-year-old Tyler Peterson had gone to the party early Sunday to make amends with his ex-girlfriend, a friend of Peterson's told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Peterson lost control after people called him a "worthless pig," Mike Kegley told the paper.
Peterson left and got a police-style AR-15 rifle from his truck, forced his way back into the apartment and fired about 30 rounds at about 2:45 a.m. (3:45 a.m. ET). Six people were killed; one person survived and is hospitalized, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said at a Monday news conference.

Re: Another Mass Shooting In the US

When I was a kid we took guns to shop class to work on and in deer season rifles and ammo was kept in unlocked lockers so you could be left off on the way home to go hunting, not to mention the fixed blade knifes in a sheath on your belt all day in school. Nothing was thought of it. Don't suppose chemically altered brains have anything to do with this problem do you??

You have a valid point there, who knows what the effects of some of these new drugs have on the brain. When you combine it with violent video games etc the lines to reality might just become very fuzzy.

Re: Another Mass Shooting In the US

You know the authorities often say they test suspects and victums for drugs and that none were found, but there are untold numbers of drugs and chemical componds out there and for that statement to be valid they would have to test for each one. Not to mention many are processed out of the blood or urin in a matter of hours. A who is to say how long it takes ones brain to return to chemically balanced state or if there will be any permanet or reoccurring problems.

Re: Another Mass Shooting In the US

Do you think that this type of crime is becoming all too common now and it does not seem to be "shocking people " like it once was? People become immune to some extent almost. Sort of like "ho hum another multiple shooting I wonder what is on the sports page today..."

If this happened in another country like Canada, Australia, the UK or NZ for example they would be marching in the streets so to speak.

It will be interesting to discover this child's background and to see if it differes from the stereotype that is in my head right now. And nothing to do with ethnicity. More to do with the parenting.

Re: Another Mass Shooting In the US

Yes, parenting and the fact that the kid has access to such a weapon so questions need to be asked - maybe parents would take more interest in what their kids are doing if they were to some extent made accountable for the actions of their children.

Re: Another Mass Shooting In the US

If that happened here in Australia it would cause a massive uproar. Martin Bryant killed 35 people and the federal government banned semi-automatic guns as a direct result of it. It is almost impossible to get a 9mm semi-automatic pistol here let alone an AR-15

I think gun control is the answer but it would be hard to enforce because so many people already have guns and many cling to the right to bear arms as if it were their first born.
