Capital Punishment

They have it in the US and not here in Australia. It's been in the news of late so maybe a poll is in order on this. Should people be executed for murder and other serious crimes such as rape, drug dealing, terrorism? Before you answer vote put your family in the position of victim, what justice would you want?

Re: Capital Punishment

The fuss here is more about people being executed in other countries for crimes that may have involved Australian victims (eg terrorist bombings in Bali)

There is then a bit of a double standard when some politicians say they dont want the death penalty but are happy to applaud its use in these cases. I suspect that they really do support it but know it would be political suicide to support it here.

Re: Capital Punishment

Stealing a man's (or woman's) horse is a serious crime. Back in the old days, there were laws.

Re: Capital Punishment

I'm all for the eye-for-an-eye mentality. IF you kill someone, your done, and you should die the exact same way. Rape someone, you loose your "goods". Grand theft, loose your hand. The biggest problem in this country is that you can go kill someone and the punishment for the crime is almost a joke so as murder, rapist, or thief, why not, what can they really do, you CAN"T die from it.

I personally think they should take murders and use them as crash test dumbies, medical practice, or targets for the military. Get those troops numb to killing people BEFORE they go out into the field, kinda like running man but they never win.

Only reason I disagree is I was wrongly accused and the charges stuck off of hear-say. Now I have a criminal record, and I didn't do anything. Or justice system here in the US is a joke.

From what I hear, pedophiles are eligible for the death penalty in Alabama. A few other states are considering it.

At that point I think you might just have crossed the line and turned it into sport. Interesting poll results so far.

Re: Capital Punishment

I dont feel like getting into it but the justice system is pretty much a joke. It actually costs US taxpayers more money to execute someone than to house imprison them for life.

I voted no, but I would probably change my mind for pedophiles and violent sex offenders..

Yep these are the ones who need it the most. And if they don't hang then they could at least castrate them. Like you said the justice system is a joke, here in Australia 10 guys just walked on gang rape charge against a 10 year old. The female judge made some stupid statement like "she must have consented to the sex" - WTF is that? It sends the wrong message in every way.

Re: Capital Punishment

if you're 200% that they're guilty for serious crime such as murder, rape etc... then yes for sure!

if you're not 100%, then throw them in jail until you can prove them otherwise! thats what i think

Re: Capital Punishment

Multiple, Capitol and rape murders when no doubt and with DNA evidence. It shouldn't also take 10-15 years either at the tax payers expense. Three years max. in jail before sentence is carried out. A single appeal to be sure of guilt in certain cases.

My buddy was guilty "Without a doubt" by the courts. He did NOTHING wrong and broke NO laws. It would suck to have known he was "Executed" for nothing.
