Hitchhikers

I was wondering if anyone ever stops these days to pickup hitchhikers? I thought it might make for an interesting poll as it's a pretty risky thing to do in this day and age. There may be circumstances in which you would stop like a hot chick in distress for example, to me that is asking for trouble

Re: Hitchhikers

I've picked up a couple here and there but it was in times of obvious distress not just some Joe on the side of the road with a dog and a four month backpack.

Re: Hitchhikers

I've picked up a few, until some guy told me I was going to get murdered as I dropped him off. Not so much after that.

if he has an ax stay away, if he has an ax and a case of beer pick him up.

if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Only if he puts the axe in the back of course, never let a stranger into your car with his axe... Quite hard to swing one in a car unless of course its a convertable.

Re: Hitchhikers

In the early 70s I spent a full summer in Nova Sctia and PEI hitching after one of my travelling buddies wrecked my car while we were out there. Once I had my own wheels again I picked everybody up after that. At least I did for a few years.

Then I started doing it less and less. And very selectively, meaning not people who looked to me like they were going to be a problem.

But I do still pick people up now, from time to time, especially if I have a friend or two with me.

Re: Hitchhikers

Ive picked up a couple in my life. But i always feel pretty safe being 6'3 300 pounds, and haveing my good friend Sig (Sig Sauer) with me that packs a few knockout punches for those desperate times.

Re: Hitchhikers

Here in Iowa you would think its safe. NOT. A Friend of mine stopped to pick up a nice looking woman who's car happended to break down. Out of no where a guy put a shotgun to his head and robbed him. Dam lucky he is still alive. I would never pick up anyone no matter the circumstances. Not even gramdma. Old bitty can use her cell phone to call for help.
