Re: Go kart help

I'm planning on building an off-road go kart for my son for Christmas. I have access to all the metal, welder, tools, etc., but I need advice on the engine, clutch, steering, brakes, etc. Anyone have any good (when I say good, I mean cheap) sources for this stuff? Or any plans I can download would be a huge help. Any advice would be great.

Re: Go kart help

How serious the off-road riding is going to be and how old your son is will be a determining factor for the engine. Are you planning on adding suspension?

I'll try to be nicer when you start trying to be smarter.

Re: Go kart help

WalMart sells cheapies. You could go take some pictures of theirs to get an idea.
Then, hit used motorcycle shop/junkyard and pirate a steering setup from an old ATV.
For the engine, just use an old lawnmower for now. When he gets the hang of it and wants more power, you can 'Tim Taylor' it for him.

Re: Go kart help

Yeah Pete, this is pretty cool looking (for a off roading kart), but would require a decent sized engine to turn those massive wheels.

Re: Go kart help

This is a cool kart! Not for off-road use, but still very cool!
