What does a central air unit cost?

Ive looked at a lot of websites and they never give a price. I have a 800 square foot house and would like one before it gets crazy hot. what would it cost to get a small one put in? I know i cant get a accurate estimate without someone coming out but would like an idea. thanks

Re: What does a central air unit cost?

That isnt to bad. If i decide to keep the house I was thinking of putting in a new furnace as well as central air.

Re: What does a central air unit cost?

Go with a unit that has a high SEER rating. In most places a 12 or 13 is code, but a higher unit will cost less to run. I would go with at leats a 14.

Do you currently have air ducts or using hydronic heat? If you have ducts it will be easier to install an AC unit. You could get some tax rebatres/deductions if you replace the entire system that is an energy saver. Also check with the gas and electric company about any incentives.

Ducts. When you get a ac unit or furnace installed, do electric inspectors come out and check the work after?

Yes, you will have to hire a contractor to do the work they will have to pull permits and have an inspection done if they are a legit company.

In Oklahoma you can't buy a central air system without a contractors license, don't know what your state requirements are.
