Formatting a Novell protected Hard drive

My buddy just bought a used laptop and wants to start from a basic windows 98 setup. Problem is that Novell (I believe) will not let him do a Format C: Any Ideas thanks.

you need a startup disk thas has the stuff to erace/create a new partition and format. supress partition, create partition, format partition fat32, make it the bootable partition, install win98.

If I am correct, some win98 cd's are bootable and will do the stuf mentioned above

forgot to mention the command you need to partition is fdisk.

Keep the rubber side down!

Re: Formatting a Novell protected Hard drive

Create a Windows 98 startup floppy by going to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. The third tab is used to create the startup disk.

Boot from the floppy, it will copy all of the utilities to a RAMdisk, C: if the HDD if not FAT.

Fdisk is the utility you use to remove any partions currently on the drive and create a new one. Reboot and format the new partition before installing Win 98.

You should also run Fdisk /MBR to remove the old Master Boot Record before putting Win 98 on it.

Hope that helps.
