Company Party = FLU

Did the office party thing, shook a thousand hands and ended up with the freakin flu. This strain sucks sore all over, painful cough, tired, etc. Oh well, hopefully my kids won't catch it. Anybody else get nailed?

I came here to chew bubble gum and to kick some ass...and I'm all out of bubble gum.

We've got it here It started last week with my daughter, hit me on Tuesday, and now the other half has it. I'm sure it'll go around again before we're through. Symptoms sound about right but add in the fever, chills/sweats, and headache too. Being sick sucks.

I was out at the freaking mall with coughing kids and dump-nutz adults out an about carrying who-knows-what.

My ailement is some sort of stomach virus though. Been hurling and crapping my guts out since 3:00 am (evey 90 min. or so just like clockwork). My next stint driving the porcelin bus is just about here.

Man.. why dod people go out while sick?????! Mother-f**king inconsiderate f**ks!!!

I hope you feel better soon man.

Re: Company Part = FLU

I happened to see a special on 60 Minutes a few years back on how to prevent getting sick with a cold/flu. They said most important is to keep your hands clean with frequent washing, never touch your face (eyes and mouth) Since I have following those suggestions, Iíve only been sick 3 times in the last five years (very mild colds) I also take a one a day vitamin and time released vitamin C.

I've gotten a flu shot each year for the past 10 years, and haven't gotten the flu since. Every year they say that they missed a certain strain in the shots, but still I have been lucky. My wife and kids, well that's a different story. They would rather get sick, then get a shot. Oh well, hope you all feel better.

Re: Company Party = FLU

I took the flu shot once, and was sick for weeks, so I said never again! I started getting a sore throat as well last night. Loaded up on some Nyquil, followed by doses of Dayquil this morning and some more Nyquil again just a bit ago. I felt terrible up until about noon today, but have been getting better since. Hopefully I caught this one in time

And on the other side of the coin, I have gotten the flu shot 4 of the last 10 years, and those 4 I got sick the worse so I won't get them anymore. I guess everyones different, but I do better fighting it myself. I always get a little sick, not enough to miss work, but after a week or two I guess my body builds up enough antibodies to fight it and I'm fine the rest of the year. YMMV.

Re: Company Part = FLU

Same here. When I get the flu shot, I get the flu. My last flu shot was 3 years ago, I had the flu. A few years before that and ever since, I haven't gotten the shot or the flu. I don't really believe that though, but it's been fortunate luck I'm sure.

My question now then is, what over the counter meds seem to help the most with the misery?

I find TheraFlu works the best for me. It's a powder that you add hot water to and drink. It's nasty tasting but works extremely fast and is very effective. I introduced it to my wife and she too is now a believer in that stuff. And speaking of meds, my wife found the best headache medicine we've ever tried, Excedrin Tension Headache. No more than 5 minutes after you take it, the headache is GONE! Anyone else here try this stuff yet?

I've had good luck with Theraflu as well, and Nyquil
