Location scout came by today

I was wiping down the blade in my garage today when a guy came by saying he was scouting out some houses for an upcoming commercial. We got to talking and I showed him inside. Needless to say, he liked the house a lot and said it was what he was looking for. He needed a house across the street from a school and a house that was open inside. He said the shoot would be one, maybe two, days. The best thing, I'd get a check from anywhere to $1,500 - $2,000 for one day's use of the house. My fingers are crossed my house gets picked. Even if it doesn't, he said it's typical that he pays neighbors $200.00 as an inconvenience fee for when they block their driveways with their trucks.

If my house doesn't get picked then block my driveway, please!! I should find out soon, the shoot is being done the 2nd week in January. Anyways, had to share. I just can't believe how good this sounds.

Did he show you any sort of ID? Just be sure he wasn't planning on a clean up of your house...

Do you have an alarm system that calls the cops?

Sounds to me like they were scouting for "locations" with easy targets like bikes and plasma TV's.....

's I wouldn't get excited until you see proof, if you didn't already. Sounds to me like he was looking for merchandise...

Re: Location scout came by today

Yup, sounds fishy to me . . . like he was looking to see what you had inside. What ad company did he work for?

Re: Location scout came by today

This reminds me...... Did anyone ever see the episode of the Simpson's when Homer let a film company use their house for a shoot and paid them like $1500 but totally wrecked the house???

To agree with everyone else... it does kind of seem convenient (holidays) to be checking out your house...(and maybe your bike!)

Re: Location scout came by today

Geez, you all a paranoid He had ID and I spoke with a neighbor who is also in the film industry and he said the company this guy works for is ligit. The film industry apparently does a lot of filming in these parts. I've been thinking it over overnight and decided I wouldn't be wild about having all these people trampling through the house. Granted, they cover the floors and send in a cleanup crew when they're done. I'd just clean up after myself anyways. In my experience, the clean up crews are the ones that 'clean up'. I don't know, I've heard nothing but good stories with people that have allowed film shoots to happen in their homes. I was wondering if anyone had ever heard otherwise.

Re: Location scout came by today

All I can say is be careful..I have been on location at homes and yeah they can get trashed pretty bad. they do "fix" it back..but...do you care of they cut a hole in your living room to mount a light? and then some hack comes back with stucco and "fixes" it...all I say is becareful..and yes you will have EVERYONE in your house, using your toilet...etc etc...

but this is a commercial not as huge as a film...so it might not be as bad.

Good luck.

DevilDog, Bake has probably nailed it here - just be sure to put on sheets that you don't care about . Good luck with it if you decide to give it a go.
