Factory fire

Saw this on my way home from work yesterday. Saw the initial explosion, it was a mini mushroom cloud with many many explosions to follow up. The sky was lit up like a Christmas tree. Still going this morning on my way in...

Re: Factory fire

I was listening to the updated info on CNN this morning. That fire is expected to continue to burn through today. Hopefully the new foam stuff they're trying will do the job. What a shame this had to happen again especially since that same business had a similar fire in Feb 2002.

Re: Factory fire

Yeah, they've got a pretty bad history of stuff like this. You'd think that they'd learn their lesson by now

Re: Factory fire

I saw all this yesterday and this morning on the news. The past fires were no where near this extreme.

"magnesium-fueled fire and explosions attracted onlookers, who drove to the site with their children to watch."

I saw these firefighters on the boom spraying/hosing down away from the fire, and I could have swore they were having fun and turning the hose purposely into the magnesium to unleash these huge fireworks and waving to their buddies and the crowd.

The whiteness of the burning magnesium was televised and it was the brightest white and most intense fire I've ever seen on the news or in person. No one has been hurt that I've heard of. The explosions, (small and large) that looked like fireworks, happened continously due to snow/rain/and fire department hosing. Pretty awesome. No wonder even people on the highway stopped and rubber-necked!

Re: Factory fire

We all know how dangerous magnesium is not to mention the extremes if one is burned with it.

What bothers me is the STUPIDITY of people that chase fire trucks or simply have to go & watch fires. The do not seem realize how they are making it so much harder for the firemen, ambulances, police & others that MUST be there to actually getting out like to the hospitals & for other importatant reasons. Nor do they realize that things like magnesium can be tossed into the air to land on them & burn, that the fumes might be EXTREMELY toxic & just so much more.

Friend of mine was a volunteer fireman & always pissed off with the civies there to watch the fire. This one time, when he was driving the fire truck he intential hit a number of onlookers with their cages. Said onlookers had to pay for their damaged vehicles as THEY were in the wrong. So much trouble from the mayor & others higher up that he quit as a 12 yr vet ------ they lost a good man.
