Ok I thought filtering was legal in this country but heres where Im confused.

Just watched Road Wars and a biker filtered through traffic but he got done for undertaking. Cost him 250 and 6 penalty points, so tell me where is the line drawn??

think filtering is legal as long as traffic is stopped... if it's moving you supposed* to slot back into the flow ... like what I Allways do

*especially when PC plods about

Thats what I was told to do when I learned 3 years ago.. I was advised not to do it on my test though as although it's the done thing my examiner might not like it

Re: Filtering

you can undertake as long as the car on the right is turning right, or as long as you do not exceed the speed limit.Ie as long as the vehicle on the right is going below the speed limit....

Re: Filtering

When I did my bike safe scheme a few years back the police officer I rode with actually over took me and began filtering on the outside of the slow moving traffic (when it started becoming a bit tighter we both slotted in)

The illegal part comes in when you undertake someone - any form of undertaking is illegal unless like RICK said he is turning right, if you are turning off (i.e. slip road) or in traffic when your lane is travelling faster than the one on the outside (your right) of you.

Re: Filtering

they do say you can exceed the speed limit in order to overtake safely, but how big a gap you can leave before you slow down again, thats the question...........

I use this simple method...

when the car is a small spec* in your mirror.... you have safely passed

oops....

It's not like I do it deliberately though

I'm just pootling down the motorway minding my own business watching everyone one slamming their brakes on behind the 50mph driver then dive out into a 2" space (while accellerating to 90mph) in the right hand lane to get past the slow driver..

Trust me it winds me up as much as it does you

Why waste more fuel, wear my engine and potentially cause another crash crossing two lanes when its perfectly ok me undertaking the driver from the inside?

The speed was ok and it looked a pretty safe manoeuvre to me, the car he undertook had nowhere to pull into anyway, it looked a real "stickler" booking by the police
