automatic bidding on ebay

Can someone recommend an automatic bidding service for ebay? I recall someone mentioning one that gets in your bid at the last second. I'm tired of getting outbid on auctions that end when I'm not home.

I don't know of any specific ones, but I'm sure if you go to cnet.com and search for "snipe" or "auto bid" you'll probably find something.

I might catch hell over this, but I said the same thing to Stegen.. Just bid what you are willing to pay, and then if you get outbid, you aren't upset..

The problem is there is always one moron that is willing to pay more than it's worth because he has to "win". He sees that you have outbid him so he keeps ratcheting up his bid until he's high bidder or it's outside his price range. Meanwhile you are either outbid or the price has gone way up. This is why we snipe. Better to wait until the last few seconds to show everyone what you are willling to pay. They don't have time to react and increase their maximum bid. The problem is you can't always be at the computer when the auction ends. Hence, sniping software.

Re: automatic bidding on ebay

Thanks for the input everyone.
Fig, you have a point, but so does Denny. I am sensible on ebay and always set a reasonable spending limit, but too often there's some nitwit that gets caught up in the competition of bidding and falsely drives up the price. To me, the biggest benefit of ebay is getting a good deal on used stuff; if I wanted to pay retail for something I'd just go buy it new.
