Importing a bike to Canada?

Anybody knows what’s involved, is it a PITA??? My cousin is looking for a Ducati and he's thinking of buying it in the US and ride it back here.

Re: Importing a bike to Canada?

You have to notify the US customs that you are taking it out 72 hours before you hit the border. http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/expor...or_vehicle.xml

The bike has to be permissible to Canada, look here http://www.riv.ca/english/_admis_list_may03_Eng.pdf

And then pay GST and maybe Duty (they may deem it foreign and not a part of NAFTA).

Get it certified and transfer ownership.

Done.

Re: Importing a bike to Canada?

If it qualifies for importation you will also have to pay Europe-import duty, add that to the total value, and then calculate the GST on that total. The amount on my Porsche was 6.5%.

Re: Importing a bike to Canada?

Anyone know how hard it is to arrange insurance for riding a bike up to Canada from the US (in order to import it). What do you do in terms of licence plates?
