Win ME and Print Sharing?

Since you all are finding the answers to my many networks/XP questions...I've got another one.

Is it possible to print, over the internet, to a printer connected to a computer with a dialup connection. The computer is running Windows ME. The computer gets a dynamic IP, but if I knew the ip everytime it connected is that possible?

As long as it's not behind a firewall, I don't see why not

Re: Win ME and Print Sharing?

Yep no firewall, unless ME has one that is on by default. Computer is only online for short amount of time to check email.

So anyone done this before? Wonder how to set it up?

Yup it is possible the command is

http://ipaddress/printers/

If you want to set this up so that you can access it any time you would require a router with DDNS and set the port forwarding (Port 80 for http)
also you would need to set up a dynamic domain name service at www.dyndns.org

example
http://mypc.dyndns.org/printers/
router forwards the request to the PC
PC sends print job to printer

Re: Win ME and Print Sharing?

There is always a person at the computer when I would need to print. So I just put the ip address in the http: line? Do I need to enable anything special on the computer with the printer?
