Re: What a deal!

That's amazing...

We pumping out 3.4 Ghz right now out of our factories at Intel and constantly working our way to make them as fast as possible. Mainly just so guys like us can run porn and racing vids at the fastest rate possible.

God bless technology.

Re: What a deal!

My first PC ran at 4MHz unless you set it to "turbo mode", which was 8MHz. It had 512Kb RAM and I dreamed of maxing it out to 640K. I paid $300 for a 20Mb hard drive that was nearly the size of a shoebox.

Anyone remember typing AT codes?

Re: What a deal!

remember running computers off casset tapes? At least I'm not old enough to remember punch cards... I had one of the first Macs when they relesed it...no HD, one 400k single sided disc...that could contain the entire OS or a word processer...and leave enough room to save a couple pages of text.

Re: What a deal!

My dad has boxes of punch cards from some of the first programs he wrote.
My first computer was a Commodore 64. Still have it, the disk drive, the tape drive and all sorts of games - ones we bought, and ones my brothers and I made.

Re: What a deal!

I've actually seen what a few have gone for on Ebay, but I don't really want to get rid of it.

Re: What a deal!

Man, do I miss the games on the Commodore 64.

Didn't you have to use a regular t.v. screen for that too?

Re: What a deal!

I still have all my old Atari gear. 800, 800xl, floppy drives, cassette drives, 300 baud modems. How about this... For a mere $40 you could order (which I have) a printed copy of the Operating System, with programmers comments! Talk about da' ****! Unthinkable nowadays, unless you are running linux..

I do remember in the early 90's having a 386 with 16mb of ram. 4-4mb strips, and due to the fact that the memory chip plant exploded, each 4mb chip ran in the neighborhood of $400 each.. Of course, the 48K in my Atari was "all we will ever need". Now, we piss that off on a title bar..

Remember the good old manual switch you hung off the antenna wire on the back of the T.V.?
