GPS Units (again, but different price range)

Hi All,

I'm looking for opinions on low-to-medium grade GPS units. To give you an idea, I'm looking for a portable GPS which can be used while I'm on the bike or in the woods but it doesn't need the huge bells and whistles. I'm currently leaning towards the Garmin eTrex Legend but don't know enough about the similar Magellan units to rule them out.

I want to hear your advice.

(I've already checked out this thread https://www.fireblades.org/forums/sho...&highlight=gps but those units are more than what I want/need. I'd love a GPS-V but too much $$$ for a toy.)

Re: GPS Units (again, but different price range)

I'll say it again (I don't remember which thread I posted in before).
The Magellan SporTrak Pro is the best handheld out there. It is the most accurate handheld unit on the market, and while it lacks some bells and whistles of their larger handhelds, it's size, accuracy and functionality make it the best package.
I was all set to but the e-Trex Vista until I was shown a SporTrak Pro. It really is a better unit, and I have always been more of a Garmin fan.
The topo map CD is great and easy to use and download to the handheld. I have taken it on a few backpacking trips already, and I am very happy with it.

Check out this site: http://gpsinformation.net/mgoldrevie...k-pro-rev.html for detailed unbiased info. They have info on many different models.

Cool, thanks for the info. I had kinda taken a look at the SportTrak but not the pro.

On a feature-to-feature comparison, it looks like the Legend has more features but I'm sure that's a world away from useability. I wish I could try it out to do a head-to-head comparison because I get to borrow a Legend for a while.
