Shoei RF-1200 Mystify in red. Best helmet I've ever had - even beats my RF-1100.

As long as its at least DOT certified, you're good.
I prefer both DOT and Snell and wear Shoei.
Hawaii doesn't require helmets. Wear one anyway, all the time.

Re: what kinda helmet lid you wear? any recommendation?

best thing you can do is get somewhere and try some on. whats important is it fits right. should be very snug. like give you fish lips snug. you dont want any movement if you grap the chin guard and try moving it left and right while holding your head str8t. they dont all have the same shape so get one that fits you best. if you cant afford a 600$ helmet thats ok just dont buy a budget buster 60$ no name waste of money. like with most things you get what you pay for. just get the best one you can afford. imo the lighter the better. ive got a joe rocket carbon fiber lid thats really nice n was under 400$. its nice and light.

Great, now I have to come-off the cash for a 1200... heard many-a-good-thing about them, even over the 1100s...

I have the RF1100 personally along with a couple of Icon helmets. As long as they are DOT you should be okay, I personally go for DOT/Snell as I want the "extra protection" should I ever need it.

On my cruiser, however, I wear a DOT half-face/"shell" helmet.... not the best for protection but the V-Twin heat is enough to kill you in a full-face in the mid of summer....

I prefer to wear the IXS Helmet fiberglass HX 397 Raze. It is one of the finest helmets in the market currently.

I had a shark s900. Internal tinted shades, pretty cool. Saved my life, I now have a found love for shark lids, don't think I'll go else where, personal experience the lid stood up to a crazy height fall and I'm still here to laugh about the tale.

Hey! I wear a shoei nxr.... the lightest and most comfortable helmet that I have ever owned! The safety features are fab too. Not amazingly quiet but the build quality feels great. I'm not an expert but would definately recommend

Re: what kinda helmet lid you wear? any recommendation?

It's all about what fits and what is comfortable. I used to wear a Shoei Multitec but it's hopeless on a sportsbike, the field of view is too low. My current lid is an Arai Axces which is Arai's entry level helmet, I've been wearing it for about 4 years and I love it, it's so comfortable you really don't know that you are wearing it.

The Chevron stickers are from MoGlo and are brilliant, they look OEM but really give you some night time visibility without looking like a tit!

I'd love one of these though, and the bike to go with it!!!

Well, maybe not the Union Jack design for you but Arai every time for me (this ones a 'Chaser V'), except an AGV open face (RP60 Bonneville Gladiator) for the Z900..........

Re: what kinda helmet lid you wear? any recommendation?

Money spent doesn't always equate to safety when buying a helmet.

I used to wear a Scorpion EXO-700. Fit like a glove but it was overdue for replacement. I hate helmet shopping but found the HJC RPHA10 gave me a good fit but I didn't like the colors they had in stock. When I went online to HJCs website I saw the RPHA11 was coming out in 2 weeks, so I ordered it. I hate that helmet. I've had it a year, which is too long.

I bought the EXO-700's successor, the 710- doesn't fit so it's going back.

I went in the store and submitted to purchasing a Shoei RF-1200. Had to order it and it's on the way to my house as I type this. I have a trackday next week.

I hate the fact that there is no standardization in helmets and manufacturers change shell shape or size without notice to the consumer. A Shoei RF-1200 could be fine for me this year, but in a couple years when it's time for replacement I cannot assume that a new RF-1200 will fit the same...and at my age, my head isn't growing anymore.

I also purchased a new helmet for my son. He's almost 5. It's disappointing that I HAD to spend 3 figures and go back-forth to stores to get him a good fit AND knowing that his head is still growing. We'll be doing the helmet shopping thing again soon; a process I do not like AT ALL!
