Went helmet shopping this weekend

I tried on several brands and sizes in each manufacturers flagship models. I thought I had a good fit with a particular brand until I found the best fit with the HJC RPHA 10. I was surprised of my choice and don't think it would have mattered if I were blindfolded. I didn't buy on the spot because they had limited colors in stock and I didn't care for one of the available choices. I looked online and felt better about what was there.

It was online that I learned that the RPHA 11 is now available and if the marketing hype is to be believed, I should forgo the 10 and pay the small delta for the 11.

Has anyone tried the 10 and 11 and done any type of fitment comparison? I'd hate to get the 11 and have my dome not feel as cradled as it did in the RPHA10.

Re: Went helmet shopping this weekend

I have an RPHA 10 and like it. I heard the fit of the 10 Pro is different to the 10, but not sure about the 11. I do know that the 11 is not SNELL rated like the 10 and 10 Pro. I was thinking to get a 10 Pro now the price has plummeted

That is correct that the RPHA 11 is not SNELL but it is ECE rated.

Re: Went helmet shopping this weekend

Your helmet is where you do not want to scrimp and pinch pennies. Usually - the higher the price, the more protection and research/development went into the lid. With that said, fit is just as important. Find a helmet that feels like good quality inside and out, try it on, rinse and repeat. Find one that fits your budget, feels like a good quality helmet (check out some of the $100 helmets - try them on, you'll notice the difference in feel), and fits your dome like a glove. Suggestions are usually irrelevant as heads are shaped differently.

Re: Went helmet shopping this weekend

I've got a couple of expensive helmets as I got sucked into the whole helmet brand snobbery thing. I'm not really convinced that you get VFM with Arai and Shoei. The visor removal tabs on my Arai are a joke.

In fairness most helmets over 150 are pretty good these days. I tried on a basic AGV recently and it was the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried.

LoL, glad you brought that up as you should see the vitriol I incurred in a FB post about the subject.
