Grommet Tips???

I bought aftermarket plastics and have to install rubber grommets in front fairing area by the head lights. Having quite the challenge getting those things in. Anybody have any advice?

Re: Grommet Tips???

Have you tried a bit of dish soap? A little on the grommet and that should help them pop right in.

You can also try put the grommets into some hot water and dish soap for a few minutes. It softens up the rubber enough to squish them in.

Are we still talking about grommets?

I've used Vaseline, silicon spray and furniture polish as well over the years, whatever slippery stuff I had handy.

Re: Grommet Tips???

The advantage of dish soap, it won't hurt the material whereas silicon spray may. Plus the dish soap will wash off.

Re: Grommet Tips???

+1 on dish soap or soapy water. They are perfect for getting hoses onto fittings, grommets into holes, cables into grommets ect. like Mr Brown says it is non harmful and seems to evaporate away.
