Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

It blocks a laser gun from recording you speed. However the officer can still issue you a ticket for speeding.

The best thing to do is, once it goes off, slow down very quickly to the speed limit, then shut it off so he can get your speed doing the speed limit.

Most stations are using lasers now an these days and detectors will not suffice as by the time a detector goes off, .3 seconds later he already has your speed.

Im going to buy it regardless however I'm seeing if I can get one cheaper during the winter.

I know many police stations are persuing their legislators to ban laser jammers becuase they do work, hopefully that won't happen anytime soon.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

The states cannot ban them. Radar jammers are banned because the FCC considers them interference devices. Laser on the other hand is not handles by the FCC but by the FDA. The states cannot control the airwaves because the FCC does and the states cannot control the spectrum that laser uses because the FDA does. The FDA does not have any rules against interference. Any state that tries will be justifying the law in court and will lose.

They can and they do. Whether or not someone wants to take it to court, well that's another matter. California Vehicle Code, section 28150.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

I agree, these devices interrupt normal police activity. I cannot see a defense supporting laser jammers.

If someone takes it to court, CA will lose. You are talking about CA where they always try to push the envelope. CA is controlling what they don't have the power to do.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

I'd love to find some precedence - like, do you know where a statute (code) like this has been challenged?

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

No other state is stupid enough like California to enact a law that they have no power to control.

Where did your local TV stations get the spectrum from? It was from the FCC; they handle the airwaves. if the states handles it, every state would be different.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

I don't know about California having the market cornered on stupid laws. Heh - you ever read Texas' law concerning obscenity? (Suffice to say if you have more than 5 of a certain types of adult toyz [not a Blade!!!], it's a felony.) Or the one that makes it illegal to milk another person's cow? (what a crime!!!!)

I do understand your reasoning which makes a lot of sense.. However, there's at least one reason on the "why": The Constitution leans towards states regulating things, unless there's a federal statute in place (this is why murder is a state crime, not a federal crime - there's no federal statue covering murder).

The FCC does regulate the airwaves, and to that end, even has a specific set of rules (code, folks, not law) about malicious interference - which is the category that radar jammers fall into.. Radar detectors are not specifically disallowed, which means states can regulate that aspect (and there's only a couple notables that disallow radar detectors).

Laser jammers have the same kind of relationship - the FDA regulates lasers, but, since there are no federal laws allowing laser jammers, individual states can plump their own statutes/codes into place..

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

The FCC says no to radar jammers. The FDA doesn't care about laser jammers. That spectrum is controlled my the FDA.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

Exactly. Since FDA doesn't care about laser jammers, the states are free to apply their own regulation (for or against).

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

It would still be regulation of the spectrum. Eventually someone will challenge the law and CA will find themselves in a world of hurt.

One could strike the law down on the radar jammer issue a lone; it is a federal offense, not a state offense.

Re: WTB Cheetah M25 Motorcycle Laser Jammer

Well, that's a bit like saying if a state tries you for kidnapping, you'd go free because there's a federal law covering kidnapping.. Don't think so.
