I am considering putting a Single sided swingarm on my 03 CBR 954 and I need to know if one from an 04 VFR800 will work?? I know with certain years the shock mounting tab has to be cut off and relocated and I'd rather not have to do that. I can handle making spacers and the rest. Can anyone tell me if the 04 model is a good choice for this swap?

Yhea I saw a chart someone had done listing the differences for each year but I can't seem to find that thread. I believe the 98 and a half, thru 04 were the years to watch for but I just want to make sure before I shell out the cash.

This thread is Very helpful... the guy did a vfr 800 on his 954/929... in fact he mods the swing arms to fit 954s/.

He said:
"the standard vfr800 needs a bit of work as well, the right side needs some meat trimming off, then a new spacer and sleaves, the original shock is fine. "

"I had to make some spacers, cut some of the VFR Spacers and trim the VFR Swing arm to fit around my engine. Maybe an hour and half total machine time.

Some things that made it easy. The shock linkage mount on the the swing arm is in the same spot as the 954 (left to right not forward to rearward). I had to use the dog bone from the VFR and turn my Triangle linkage plates 120 degrees forward.

The length of the VFR swing arm is the same as the 954 so i was able to use my original chain. The VFR used a 43 tooth rear sprocket same as the 954 so my speedo stayed the same. My ride height is exactly the same as it was before so i didn't have to do anything with the kick stand.

Overall it was a perfect fit."

Step one - Remove Seals and bushing, Cut 1/4" down both sides.



Step two - Clean edges up with a file



Step 3 - Clean and re-insert seal and bushing (The Bushing will have to be trimmed too but this will be part of the fitment stage of the swingarm)



I used the stock 954 pivot bolt. I drilled the inside of out so that the VFR pivot bolt can go through it. I then cut the head and the threads off the 954 hallowed out pivot bolt and used that as my spacer between the engine case and the VFR pivot bolt.

As for more machine work , I had to make custom spacers. and that was it.

That's perfect. Milling the swingarm down is nothing. I have acres to a Mazak machining center. Spacers too. Just didn't wanna have to mess with shock geometry. Thanks for the link.
