I always lock my handle bars as I have no garage to store by bike during riding season. Yesterday I was going to go for a ride, all happy as it was a beautiful day, low humidity, comfortable temperature and lots of sun. I turned the key and unlocked the handlebars, but that is as far as the key will turn. The cylinder will not pop back up allowing me to turn it to the off nor on position. This is the first time it;s ever happened. I also tried the spare key but no luck. Any advice what I can do other than taking it apart to see what the problem is?

I know it's an old bike, but I have never had an issue until yesterday.

Yes, I sprayed in some white lithium grease but that didn't work. I also tried again several hours later but no luck. I tried again today but nothing.

I took the rubber boot off, looks easy, just unhook the wire and a few bolts.
