I am completely new to an old school bike, my last one being a 2013 GSX650F so apologies if this question seems stupid

Haven't had the bike long but I'm finding when I'm sat at the lights I'm getting gassed out by what I believe is exhaust fumes

Is this normal for a bike of this age?

It does have an after market exhaust can, or could it be running a bit rich

Regards - Jay

We are looking at 19 years of how old are those orings holding back fuel?
1. Choke arm to choke plungers sticking off their close position or leak at the pad face/oring.
2. Orings at the jets or air screws, where the air oring closes off air and turns rich, to the oring under the jet holders or slide orings meeting the jet hole. Now possibly dry from sitting and cracked now, so even more gas goes out those [once sealed] fuel passages to now run rich.
3. Float needle tip being rubber in design is leaking, but not that much to overflow, but a sign one might remove the oil cap and smell the crankcase for a gas smell, to a high oil level caused by overflow at the fuel system's orings and/or float levels.
