Bought a 2000 CBR929RR a few days ago. On the ride home, I hit some gravel and dropped it on its left side. The cover got cracked, so after I towed it home I started to look at it further, only to discover the main engine case is cracked, with one piece broken off. I hear this is common with 929s, but it sure bums me out. One of my friends who's a mechanic looked at it and said that if we take our time and do a good job, some JB weld should fix it. Was wondering what you guys think, and what those of you who have dealt with this before have done.

EDIT: Sorry for all the posts, would only let me upload one pic per post

If you burn all the oil out of the metal JBWeld _might_ work, but it'd be a better fix to get it properly welded.

Thanks guys, I contacted a welding shop, looks like I'll be bringing it in next week. Might as well have it done right.

One more question; one of the pieces that got cracked has the lower locating pin hole for the stator. One guy who looked at it was pretty worried about getting it lined back up perfectly. How important is it to get the coils inside the stator cover centered inside the flywheel? As long as its not touching would it be fine?

I would install the stator cover with the broken piece in place, tack the piece in place and then remove the cover to complete the weld.
