Just changed my rear brake pads on my 94 honda magna. They are drum brakes and I re-installed all compononets correctly and testing the stopping ability while the bike was still on the lift-worked fine- but once I took it off the lift and rode it around the rears dont work at all. Its almost as if they arent there. I thought maybe a spring popped off or something came loose so back up on the lift it went. Tried spinning tire while on lift and it stopped just fine. Took the wheel off and inspected everything and it was fine. Tested stoppage one more time on lift-fine. Took it off lift and rode around and same problem again. No stopping at all. I messed with some of the tension adjustments on the brake rod (or whatever you call the things that connects to the hub on the wheel) and no change. Do I need a new drum or is something else going on?

sounds odd..if you put everything back like it was..i don't see why it would work on the lift..and not work on the ground ??..maybe you need to remove the rear wheel..and see if you got everything back together right ??..you would be amazed as to what we over look !..lol..if everything is right..and you get the wheel back on..hook the connecting rod back up..put your brake adjusting rod through the brake lever ( with the tension spring of course ! ) barrel bolt..then the 12mm nut..tighten the brake lever in until you cannot spin the wheel by hand..you should just be able to spin the rear wheel by hand..then press down on the foot brake lever..it should stop the rear wheel ?..if not..i would say something is not put together right.
