Apologies for the long post, but I am a newcomer to Blade's, having just got an 03 954. It has a (next to useless) Yoshimura street bolt-on (not even an RS-3, so no noise and no extra bhp), and I want to learn the ropes on boosting stock performance. Compared to the TLR I also own, which has a full Yoshi race system, the 954 seems a bit disappointing in sound and performance.

Can someone give me the short "standard" download on staged performance upgrades (I have heard of Blades with PCIII, full Hindle systems getting 148 at the rear wheel) - ie bolt-on race can delivering (?)hp and saving (?)lbs in weight; "half-systems" (?)hp, (?)lbs saved; full race system and hp weight etc.

Have heard that while Yoshimura may be well regarded for Suzuki's, maybe this is not so for Honda's - what are the better ranked cans, sytems for Blades?

Am a newbie to fours and all information greatly appreciated, including links to members selling gear secondhand.

I have the full Hindle and PCIII as well as flapper mod. The exhaust saved me in the neighborhood of 13-15 pounds and coupled with the PCIII gave me around 142-143 hp at the wheel. Despite the stock system having a Titanium header and Titanium exhaust sleeve it weighs quite a bit. My 954 bone stock turned out 127-129 at the wheel. So if ya do the math you lose 15 pounds and gain 10-12hp. In my books that a pretty good deal. As far as bolt-on cans I have no expierience with one on my 954 so I can give no advice on that. I too am in the middle of changing exhaust. Bike is in pieces now. After research alot of people on fireblades prefer the hindle system, which I know little about. Other favorite and does a lot of R&D with Honda is Two brothers and sounds good to. I opted for the M-4 Titanium which droped 8lbs. I am not finishe with the conversion but hope to gain HP as well. first off, :welcome: to the org :D


Secondly, I have put a full high mount hindle and round aluminium can on my 954 plus a pc3.
I went from 135.4 hp at the rear wheel to 149.3 at the rear and there is no dips in the power curve as well.
The exhaust conversion saved me 10 pounds over the stock system (19 compared to 9)

Zeeman also experienced similar numbers with the same setup but on a 929.

Full hindle on a 929 - 149.3hp and about 5kg weight saving.

Also, buy a full hindle form the Us for about the same price as a bolt on from Aus.

Arata exhaust's are a good choice for 54s. Got 12+ hp out of mine. Don't waste your time w/ a can if you want power.

Certainly a can only upgrade will be a lot cheaper and give U the noise. But if you really want to give your 954 a real boost in performance, unload a full 11-15 lbs of genuine Honda Titanium. Get rid of the Htev valve which only adds more weight. Any good exhaust manufacturer; Akra, Yosh, Micron, Arata will deliver more with a properly mapped PowerCommander.

Full Akro, PCIIIr, Two Custom Maps... 152.1 and 149.5

Actually like the feel of the second map, it pulls harder at the bottom.... a lot harder

Aussie954 -check pricing here for Hindle.

Paul - from memory, Dan Kyle tested a Full Hindle, Micron Serpent and Full Arata system back to back (with custom maps for each) the end result was a top end varitation of about 2hp max, and pretty much the same all the way down, the hindle came up tops for mid range, Arata for top end, and the Micron was there pretty much all the way. I think it was 2nd in top end, and just 3rd for midrange. So you can expect 140 - 146rear wheel hp, and a good midrange, with only small (if any) losses down low. I think the dyno charts that Dan posted vanished with the old forum, but I'm sure someone probably still has that chart deep in their cache or something...

Not really - 17 odd BHP for the R1, another 12 for the gixxer leaves ( bear in mind the quote "With an extra 37bhp of tuning goodies between them") 8bhp. pretty much below the Arats, Microns and Hindles, the worst Hindle result I know of was about 10hp - and remember, there is also good midrange boosts, along with very little, if any low losses. Yoshi's really are not too well known for mid range on Hondas.

Thanks for the info and links - much appreciated. Now 140-145hp at the rear would be really starting to get there. The search for gear will now commence in earnest! :clap:

BTW good thread!

I've got the same setup on mine......went from 130 to 146.3hp with custom mapping....although the bike had very few kms on it when this was done....so might have a few more ponies now

Slip on (bolt on) pipes for the 954 are hard to get any gains, We did a comparo on our dyno of 4 pipes, stock, Arrow, Yoshi and Micron. Stock, 130. Arrow, 129. Yoshi, 128. Micron 135. With the 929, almost any pipe would give you 5-8 h.p, but with the 954 the Micron has been the only one for 5h.p, right at the end of the rev range.
Full systems, The serpent has given us the most gains, but I have just got an Arata system on my 600RR which made 4h.p more than the serpent. And the quality of the thing, Damn. I loved them so much, I'm now importing them to sell in Oz.

There's that word again ARATA....could that be what I need to awaken the "Sleeper"? :hmm:
