Lads, lifted the tank for the first time and when we removed the air box we found a tube/hose that is not connected and appears to be blanked off, any ideas

really looks like the hose that goes to the IAT sensor. the IAT sensor is mounted on the right underside of the airbox, and has an electrical connection AND vacuum line going to it.

Unslow, wouldn't a missing sensor code via air loss or wire loss = Code set. OP does not mention a code is the assumption at the dash... 'looking in all the wrong places.'
Where is the WAX and that answers that. I sort of walked that diagnostic out? Not trying to upstage anyone.

Abstract thrown at it is fine, but it's a lot of crap chasing the electronics and code present is paramount if it's not sort of speak. It that was confusing enough, I bet you get it now sort of.

No Leslie, thank you. I choose my threads carefully. It's heavy thought processing on my end. I'm the slow one around here, the dullest tool in the shed and all that. So I have to practice logic moves like a chess move. The bike only works one way.

usually, yes. yes it would. but, the OP did not mention the MIL being illuminated, nor a "trouble code", so I didn't assume. I just had my tank & airbox off this weekend, and it looked very familar to me. of course I could be wrong, but can't we all? I'm not just GUESSING that it's the hose to the IAT valve... I'm educatedly guessing

You're with bike, I'm with parts page. Being wrong edumecates me.

So let me ask you this... IAT is intake air temp. How can vac display temp? Isn't that via 3 wire? Heat something, let the air cool it, the 3rd wire sends that to the ECU? Not a vac sort of data sent?

not 100% sure how it all works, but there is a (necessary) hose that goes to the sensor (even if to just "block off). last year my 954 started "hard" and ran poorly. MIL illuminated, displayed code for the IAT sensor, and when I removed the tank, airbox cover, air filter, and airbox, I noticed the hose was disconnected. REconnected hose, reset codes, unhooked + battery cable... then reassembled. all better.

please pardon me... it appears I have my sensors "crossed". I was referring to the MAP sensor, but calling it the IAT sensor. my mistake. I apologize to those that I have confused or lead astray.

This is why I cover my rear end, because I'm 100% correct or your bike does not run. How do I know? Page so and so between the lines in the manual reads, 'if you can't start this bike with a book, factory tools, please see the front office and pick up your check.'

Signed,
NOLTT(and you wonder why I sign off at the end when in the end, no one listens) When I choose my threads carefully, I better know whathell I'm talking about or MAO must be turning in his grave when he said, 'No investigation, no right to speak.'

Get it right or here comes page 3 trying to get you there is more fun on my end and add grief to yours. I keep telling you, you go playing wit day big boys, day is going to mop you up like a backmarker comes crying to me I go to close to his abstract... and it was just practice!

it is rather common for 954 owners to remove a faulty HTEV system. there's even a thread on this site, giving a "step-by-step" procedure to removing it without illuminating the MIL.
