Hello all

Went for a wicked ride on Sunday, my 2003 954 runs nice, my mate has a 2006 1000RR on long open road ,I was in front up to 200km/h thereafter it looks as if I am hitting brakes, he comes past me with so much power.

I am considerably heavier than him +/- 25kg, I had no idea my bike had such less power than his, his bike was on the track at a stage and was setup as such.

I have taken my bike to 245km/h before would it be able to go more if needed, not that I run that speed.

what is a good a good sprocket setup for my blade, not top end(max) but something nice.

Sprockets won't make any difference.
You have two disadvantages, power and aero drag. Your being heavier will affect acceleration but not top speed - unless of course, you are also causing more drag.
If you want high speed performance you need to improve the aerodynamic package. Or make a great deal more power, a lot more than your mate's 1000RR.

A few more HP won't make the difference. With more drag than a 1000rr means you'll have to make much more HP than a 1000rr just to overcome that difference. Not real feasible. I wouldn't worry that much about what happens over 200 kph.

Actually....

Depending where the power curve is, to each individual with reference to body weight, what causes drag and kills torque. I have minorly gone up in gearing to gain top end, where it should be the other way around. This way it just made it pull thru the high wind drag you get at those speeds.

Are you running stock gearing ? If its the 16/42 (530) from memory, your at a 2.63 final drive, and id go the -1/+2 what is a great mod on the 954 to 15/44 (go lighter 520) what is 2.93.

Around the 3.00 is a superb ratio on them, (15/45) but it becomes quite snappy, and the ratios get short.

You can wake the motor up, but fact is that hp at peak speed isnt relative to aerodynamics at that point. You can spend a whole heap to go a few more kph :(

Or just accept it, I think what I also overlooked is 3 years older technology, 950 vs 1000, i got the feeling my bike was not a good bike but I think it still may be, I like it, and what the hell if others pass me by, I would think I could get a 255km/h out of her? what u think would be top end?

In good stock condition it should pull around 270kph.

Mine is in good condition, i look after it, baby it most of the time, got pipercross filter, can on the back(titanium), looks like a branch, how can I tell, run castrol RS 4 SYNTHETIC, very well looked after, should it rocket to 270 or does it take it's time?

What's a "branch"?
The best way to see how quick it is is to ride it.
It's near impossible to describe it in words unless somebody has actually timed its 0-270kph time. And then it still depends on what you're comparing it to. You're probably over 200kph within 400 meters of launch.

Sorry man, branch meaning the header pipes from the outlet ports to the can.

Here in SA we refer to that section as a branch.:( Iwas wondering how to tell weather it is a standard or a performance unit.

Okay, never heard that before :)
It's generally called the midpipe that connects the muffler to the header collector.
Just post a pic and somebody should be able to ID it.
If it's a slip-on muffler or bolted to a simple length of pipe then it's probably aftermarket.
The OEM pipe tapers out to be wider where it bolts to the muffler and it has a support bracket under the swingarm pivot.

Cool man, sorry for the confusion about the exhaust, The guys here have different terminology and it's most likely wrong (3rd world) hahaha...

Bladeracer, you have assisted me before with some answers, your knowledge is vast as is most of the people on this forum so please forgive my ignorance and dumb questions, but this is my first super bike and have questions as they pop up.

Today went for a run testing the run speed +/- 800 - 900m = 205 - 210km/h

Ran her hard today nice highway run with some other guys.
When we pulled away my foot slipped off the peg as I was changing to 2nd, I was gunning it, it went into neutral and then clucked into 2nd.

My foot had oil on it from where we stopped and pulled away.

What will the over rev cause, and what is the hard cluck into 2nd and what would be damaged?

Other say a piston, others say a crank , i don't know, maybe nothing.Seems fine.

What to look out for.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Not sure what your distance versus speed means but you should be over 200kph from a hard launch within 400 meters. I would think you'd be close to topped out in 1000 meters.
It depends on how high you revved it. Did the limiter come in?
I'd be very surprised if you've done any damage from the missed gear.

Where are you,at the coast or highveld,I have a 2003 954,standard sprockets.I have a K&N filter in and a Stealth pipe fitted with stock headers. On the dyno on the highveld it does 278 Kph @ 148hp 101Nm.I have ridden it at the coast and saw 290 kph on the clock, wich would not be the right speed as all speedo's are out,but to be honest you should see 270 quite easly,if you push it in all the gears to the red,but if it bothers you you can do all the mods as mentioned above, but I wouldnt if I were you.Did you read about the guy who got a R18000.00 fine for doing 232 in a 120 zone,Just leave it bro, rather go to the track if you want to speed, its not worth it
Cheers:thumb:
