Y'know, I recall a thread here about that very issue. In fact, IIRC I've posted a time or two about being less than happy with the CS I got in dealing with the online side of the biz.

That said, if I lived near them and were in the market for a 954, hell, I'd give 'em my money. You could always take the bike to a friendly dealership for warranty work and whatnot. As I'm sure you know, dealer shops are only too eager to get your business (contrary to popular belief, dealerships make plenty on warranty repairs).

i am quite upset that honda would do that that changes the whole market value of the 954. instead of letting the market predict resale price they have now taken it into their own hands and changed it. no one is going to get anywhere near what book value is, which was around $7800 in march. now it is at $7000 and with these prices for a "new: one you can expect them to drop even more. this sucks for those of us who bought these new, cause basicly honda just took about $1k outa my pocket for no reason with this move. it will seriously make me re-consider another honda purchase...

Did you think they were going to let them rot in a warehouse so your resale value wouldn't be affected? :idunno:

The 954 was simply the victim of bad timing and market forces. The cold, harsh reality of it all is, the 954 didn't sell particularly well during its two year run.

The Gixxer 1000, only a year old at the time the Honda came out, was significantly more powerful, and the R1 had a substantial revision in 2003, the year after the 954 debuted.

Sales languished.

Figure in the talk of three totally brand new liter class supersports coming out in 2004 (the yipping and yapping began a full year before they showed their faces), and you can see why the 954 is sort of the forgotten child in the open class sportbike world.

It's a pity too, because it's a damned good motorcycle, and is underappreciated IMO.

no i don't but they could have started to limit the supply of the bike into the us when they started to see that they were no where near their projected sales targets half way through the year. it is 100% their fault. and i know that a bike is not an investment but there is no reason that we should all take a $1k bath cause honda didn't do their sales job 2 years ago.

i expect to lose money on my bike and it happens over time with age and such, but not almost overnight.

I agree,I think a lot of people buy based on horespower/looks/weight.Maybe in 2 years I'll be able to buy a 1000rr for $9500 otd.

Skully, you very well may be right.

Alot of people buy whatever bike is the newest/baddest (on paper) for any given year. Clearly, in many peeps' mind anyway, that's the 10R this year. (Note: I honestly believe the Honda is the better motorcycle and in no way is underpowered, for the record.) Many have R1 on the brain as well.

Next year brings with it an all new for 2005 GSX-R1000 which I'm sure will be a formidable sporting weapon. All the squids will flock to their local Suzuki dealers.

Yeah, I can see the RR falling through the cracks a little bit too. Good news for folks who might be in the market not this year, but in the next couple.
