Other than the flapper mod...anyone done any other mods>>??

Got some feeback from an Erion guy that an OEM filter with the stock element gutted and a piece of foam Air conditioner filter in its place is what they have used.
Anyone used anything other than an off the shelf filter?

Look through the Knowledge base and search on RAM AIR for some extended reading on the subject. :thumb:

I had made my own filter a while back, used the same material the Hayabusa folks were using on there turbo bikes and it worked prety good.

Think it was 1 inch thick material (foam like) and had no oil in it (like the K&N has oil in it)

I hadnt noticed any sand/dirt/etc in the airbox on the motor side of the filter.

I had used the stock OEM fillter unit and cut out the paper filter area and made it a little bit bigger.

I also moved the IAT (Inlet Air Temp) sensor from behind the air stacks to in the air flow (inside the right side airbox inlet) and noticed it better in hot weather, no difference in cold/night driving.

I think this is common busa mod too, the sensor gets hot at low speed traffic and indicates wrong air temp to the ecu, too hot so too lean mixture.

I think busa guys change the sensor to ram air tube?

I did the flapper mod and also cut all the extra plastic that was holding the flapper in and closed off on the the air intake openings. Then had it mapped and gained about 5 hp from a few hours work and 5 dollars for the epoxy.
Look at the attachment. Left is the reworked airbox and the right is stock. I reworked one for a local guy here and he loved it.

Report on the filter mod...

I gutted an OEM filter and glued in the AC filter foam. Its about 1/8 inch porous foam like material. I took my HAAS map and went +5 globally as a starting point. I lost a little in the mid but got a hit at 8 grand.I also lost about 2-3 mph top speed. Without custom mapping...I dont think I could get the gains it should be capable of producing. If time and $$ allow it, I'll get the setup on the dyno and have her professionally mapped. I like the HAAS map setup for the OEM filter better than my half assed map and cusom filter ...so I put it back in. Welcome back midrange!

I'm still hanging with the stock setup. Basicly I think the flapper is ok, I don't think it robs any power. Also the stock filter is good, so don't wan't to change that. Pair valve is good for environment so that stays, and it doens't pop, so it's ok. And it's not too heavy.

My plan is to maybe cut the cone off. But probably gonna leave that too.

blade is running strong as it is. :thumb: If I want more power, I just use more WOT.
