A tech question...
Does anyone know or have any experiene with removing the airbox and using seperate filters on each throttle body? Everyone seems to talk about the loss you receive if you remove the velocity stacks, but a mechanic told me that this would work with results. I'm hesitant about this concept and have never heard of such thing on a fuel injected bike. Keep in mind the bike will be being used for street only...
Anyone?

I'm no techie, but I would think the problem with or without the airbox is still getting "direct" airflow to the stacks. I'm guessing you would lose throttle response on the low end:idunno:

You will lose HP and torque if you remove them. They are tuned lengths within reason because they had to trim the end ones off to get them to fit in the airbox. Go ahead and try it but I'm confident you will lose not gain. They help speed the air coming into the engine so that even after the piston reaches the bottom of the cylinder the intake valve stays open just a bit longer even as the piston starts coming up the air keeps rushing in. If you take them off this effect will be lost. It's the tapering of the stack that accelerates the air as it enters the engine. Good luck

This mechanic is living in the dark ages. Back in the day of carbureted bikes it was common to remove the airbox and put on individual filters. Bikes such as the old GSXR 1100 would respond to this well.
However, with the age of fuel injection, air box volume and pressure play a key role.
Run, do not walk, away from this mechanic and don't allow him to touch your bike.

I'll second BDA116. Run, and do not stop. This person will distroy your motorcycle.
