I was speeding.  About 35-40 in a 25.  That said:

Dude shot right out in front of me.  Pulled out of a parking lot on my right, turned left accross my lane right in front of me.  To make it worse he turned deep into my lane trying to avoid the car coming the opposite direction as me.  B/c of this car he had to stop IN MY LANE.  I basically grabbed so much front brake that I did a stoppie about 2 feet off his drivers door.  While my ass end was in the air I looked right at him!  When my back wheel hit the ground he floored it and took off.  The bike fell to the right, but I was able to catch it.  I wanted to chase him down on so many levels, but I know it would have been ugly so I played the 'bigger man' role and bushed it off.  Still upsetting though.

Probably a good thing you didn't go after him. I was much happier to spend my evening w/ lfg, the Hondagal's and the rest of us eating my prime rib, rather then bail you outta jail

That was a good ride man, thanks for coming along! How'd your seat do? I gotta do something about mine, it's like sitting on a slab of concrete

You showed great restraint in now chasing him down (and believe me, I know how difficult it is to quash that urge).  That said, we all know that a lot of people are 'packing' these days - it coulda turned very ugly.

So was it a great emergency stop?  I have been doing a little 'post mortem' in my head and wonder if I would have had more stopping power w/ both wheels on the ground?

I think so.  If that is the case, my stop really wasn't that good.

EDIT: Input is welcome.

Glad you lived to tell us the story, Heavy.

Yes, you'd have had more stopping power with both wheels on the ground, and better control of the motorcycle. Nothing to beat yourself up over, though, as you hauled it down without incident and that's what counted this time.

Pete : this time.
That's right. 'This time'. I'm not beating myself up, just being critical so I can learn from the incident. I didn't intend for the back end to come up and the way I see it, whenever the bike does something you didn't intend it to do, that's bad.

I really need to take that class at Nelson.

nah, it's all good HD. As long as you make it out in 1 piece and cause no one else grief, I'd take that anytime.

In emergency stops like that, sometimes it's a little hard to keep both wheels 100% planted. I've done rolling stoppies b4, just to brag....

Good thing there is nothing more to it then above. Still we all need to realize that most cage people cannot judge or pace & since you were clocking 35-40 on a 25 then you should NOT be surprised that the cage driver made that error in your speed & yes sometimes a cage will be accidently stuck in an oncomming lane due to traffic ------------ it is part of life. Thimg is no one was hurt nor was there any damage. Just a m/cist travelling a bit to fast & a cage driver simply misjudging the riders speed.

I'd be impressed if while you were in mid stoppie you reached through the window and grabbed him by the throat.

I have got one....

I was on a major drag in the commercial district when a guy came out of a store parking lot and moved all the way to the left lane..... Put me in to oncoming traffic.

I blew it off, but as I headed home he was going the same way I was heading so.... I started to get more and more pissed especially he blew a stop sign in a residental neighborhood...

So finally I pulled up next to him and knocked on his window and said 'Sir what in the hell is your problem?'

He looked at me and started crying!!!! I asked him what was wrong and I look in the back and he has a baby and like a 3 year old in the back and he says to me.... I know my wife is cheating on me and I need to find her!!!!

I looked at him and said..' I am so sorry to hear this but please do not get your children killed trying to find her..!!!'

I was so.....
