Hello All.. ive been lurking here and the motorush forum(and even the old cbr929.net forum) for quite some time and wanted to introduce myself. I have a 2001 California 929 (the faster r/b model). I currently have a micron bolt on can with a pcIII, loaded with the map Dan Kyle provided with it. I just had my 32,000 mile service to make sure everything is running clean. Im having a full arata system installed next week, having the intake flapper removed and having a custom map made for it. The system looks awesome. What kind of power gains could i expect? I thought i saw a chart somewhere on this or the motorush site at sometime, but cant seem to find it. Could someone post one for me? Im sure its going to clean up that nasty on/off throttle feeling, especially around 3K. DK told me the best F/A ratio was around 12.8 to 13.1. Is this something I need to tell the tuner, or will the dyno software know this automatically? How much of a weight difference is there going to be? i know i know, lots of questions, but hey, its my first post thanks

well. my first dyno run yesterday with a micron slip on and DK California map that came with my PCIII for my 929 was 123RWHP.  Is that about avergage for a CA bike?  I should be getting the bike back today, mods are full arata system, removal of the Pair valve, removing the charcoal canister blocking the O2 sensor and removing the intake flapper. I told the tuner that DK told me that the best F/A ratio for the 929 with an arata is 12.8 to 13.1.  Sound about right to you guys? I heard he is pretty good at it, so i  hope it all goes well.  Ill get it this afternoon.

ER : I bet you see more like 20HP for gains, since the CA model is so restrictive.
No he won't, and no it's not.

You can expect 10-12 Hp. Tell your tuner to set the A/F in that range, it does make the most Hp on a 929.

The CA model 954 isn't more restricted than the 49-state model? How would it not be with all the additional stuff that is packed into the exhaust in order to meet the cleaner-air standards?

I have a 49 state Arata but don't think you'll find anyone here with a CA version...you're the first.

Let us know how you make out...HGToo has an Arata for her 929 but is currently using Dan's CA map ( his recommendation)since he had none for the 49 state bike. There's no decent tuner in our area so we have no custom maps to share with you.

You will find your throttle smoother.

I have a CA version.  ER, the only difference is in the exhaust having a catalyzer, O2 sensor, and a charcoal canister.  Honda did a good job in design and I've seen people who seem to know there stuff say it only drops 1 or 2 Hp.  Since this guy has already removed his cat with a slip on, he should basically have the same HP as a 49 state bike already.

Of course, there's not much Honda left on mine. It's not really a bike right now either...more of a rolling chassis.

I got 12hp on my 54 from stock to full Arata, pc3r (w/o ign advancing) & flapper gone with a custom map.  My tuner played w/ the A/F ratio between 12.8 to 13.1 and use the what ever got the most HP. but those are the sweet numbers to be at.  A good tuner will know that. After a good custom map your bike should be smooth at all rpms & throttle positions.  Mine with DK's map was way too rich below 6k.  Your tuner shouldn't have a problem cleaning up low range. Assuming he is compontent....if it's not all smoothed out...I wouldn't pay...or find another tuner.

Except 10 to 12, possibly 14 hp gains over stock...10 is the norm.

well, i just got the bike back and got the dyno map, but i dont have a scanner.. ill get someone to scan it and upload it later, but my initial run with a micron slip on, and DK CA map was 124.1 and after with the full arata, removal of the intake flapper and custom map i made 131.3.. so i gained 7.2 hp.. i was hoping for more, but the throttle is alot smoother and it pulls alot harder after 6.5 rpms or so, there was a lot of traffic, so i didnt get to really get on it. I got a few comments on the looks and the sound... well, its still fast enough for me, I cant ride it to its full potential anyways... but i like to dream about it hehe.. btw, i have about 37,000 miles on it, if that makes any difference

i know dyno's vary in terms of how high or low the final numbers is but the difference that a mod makes should be fairly close and 7.2hp sounds more like a D&D increase in power .... Me and another guy from Florida who frequents this board from time to time picked up 13 and 14hp with our Serpents

12 rwhp and 4rwtq on back to back dynos with Dan's map; I have a CA 954. Also, much better (smoother) throttle response and tip-in and fatter power curve.
