Hi All,

My bike's battery is going flat if I'm forced to have the bike idling for a long time (traffic ect). It's fine if I keep it revving.

Anyway I measured the voltage on the battery, and get around 11.9. I then started the bike and measured the voltage, I get around 12.2. I then rev it to around 4k rpm and get around 14.2. I'm just wondering if there's something faulty there? I thought the battery should be getting 14.4 all the time, not just when it's revved up  Also do you know which part it faulty? Thankyou

The readings of the battery are a little low, but sound good at rev. With out the bike on it should be over 12 volts, with the bike on it should be over 13 volts. Since the voltage goes up when you rev the bike it would seem that it is the battery. So I would take the battery to a parts store to test it.

You can check the stator and the regulator to see how they are performing. A failure of one component can cause the failure of the other(s)
