I like T-9, though more for protection than lubrication.
I have heard some people recommend WD-40 for cables. Again, I don't think this is a good lubricant.
For lubrication that involves sliding surfaces (vs rolling, like ball bearings) I like a grease, preferably with Moly. This is a very BLACK, messy grease. Cold temperatures may be a factor - if so, then a dry lube may be better.
For rolling-type lubrication, Moly is not recommended. White Lithium grease is better for that.
I think most lubes are going to work just fine for most applications. Definitely do not recommend WD-40 though; just be sure it is proper for the job and manufactured by a reputable company. I can't even remember who makes the stuff I use, all I know is it works and it smells like bananas haha.
