What ive got is an 01' 929 going into a race car and have heard the key ignition unit needs to be in the circuit for the electronics to work properly.

Is there a way to bypass the key ignition unit and have everything still function properly? Ill just be running a push button start button.

Unless you canadians get hondas equipped with the
H.I.S.S you do not need the key. If you do have H.I.S.S. on the canadian models all you need is the key fob with the rfid chip in it to be near the transponder ring on the ignition switch and keep that transponder unit wired into the ignition harness.

Say if you have the bike that the motor came out of, you would know that you have the HISS system because it is a label on the top of the petrol tank. Other than that, identifying HISS, then im not sure. I believe that it may also be on the key switch gear if my memmory is right.

The HISS version has a receiver coil around the ignition barrel. It has HISS written on it.(Refer to the attached photo) It is excited by a small chip embedded in the key.
To get the chip out, just peel the Honda sticker off the key and dig out the chip buried in the rubber. It needs to be in close proximity to the coil to work.

On the 00, 01 model the immobilizer light will only light up once the correct key(chip) is used. On later models the cluster had a flashing red LED when the immobilizer was active.

Sounds good. So there is no other way to remove all HISS components including the key ignition system on an HISS bike?

if it has HISS, the ECU will not allow the bike to run unless the correct key is used. There is no way to disable it. If it could be disabled, why have it?

You can wire the receiver coil anywhere on the machine that you plan to run the engine on. Just glue the coil down with epoxy to the ECM and stick the chip in the middle. You can wire up any starting system you like then, push button and all.
This obviously depends on having the original chip from a correctly coded key.
Do you have a working key or not?

Im not sure if you can bypass the HISS system if you have it unless you use the chip idea - there is a man on ebay in the uk who is selling non hiss ecu's - plug in and the hiss is "bypassed"

Just for anyone who ever brakes their 2000-2001 cbr929rr key with HISS, you can just get a key cut (if you have the key number on the tag thats great, otherwise you can get the locksmith to cut a blank using the broken pieces, they ran mine through a computer and came up with the exact right key). Then you can use the blank key (without a transponder on top, ie. not a special honda one), to turn the ignition on - then just put the transponder from the broken key right next to where the key goes in and it will recognise it, you'll hear the FI sound and it'll let you start it.
