Not sure if you guys are getting this but it's predecessor was huge in Europe and Japan. This model has just been launched in the UK.
I've got to admit to a sneaking attraction following the introduction of a penalty points sytem by the traffic Nazis here for speeding - same price as a 600RR, natural 80mph limit to cruise (get blown off back otherwise), handles very well, a little heavy but not bad, great finish, 114hp and huge torque peaking at about 7,000 rpm. Bet it'd scare a few at trackdays - could even get Rennsports on to it. Could even the get the good lady on the back to tour Europe.....

9.6:1 compression why not more . i like some naked bike but this isn't one of them

Nope, it won't be coming here.

Honda had fairly much the same animal on US shores once before, the CB1000, in production from '93-95. It was a naked before being naked was cool. It was portly and underpowered anyway... 540 pounds and only 97 hp.

Onda, did you see in this weeks MCN that one was entered in last weeks Suzuka 8hr.

Had bikini race fairing, headlight behind the screen, belly pan, and single seat cowl. Bigger tankTuned to about 150bhp, USD forks etc. really lovely looking thing.

Good news is that Honda are putting it into production as the CB1300R with about 135bhp and slightly lower spec suspension.

Being a bit of a naked bike fan, I do enjoy my 600 Hornet, I would be tempted by this much bigger brother. Just what I've always wanted - a top quality naked bike. As much power as you'll need but good handling and brakes. Like you I'm getting a little concerned about speeding. I was recently happily hammering along at 125 mph through a ludicrous rural 50 limit. Only when I got home did I start to think about teh consequences of a pull. At least a year ban, big, big fine and possibly a prison sentence. My Hornet starts to get a bit like hard work over 100mph..

I saw the article about the R version Proto, although one of the attractions of the standard bike is probably the easy power. I've been driving a diesel car lately, and am amazed at how rewarding a driving experience it is on 90hp - it's got great performance in normal use, and gets you places so relaxed after hours at the wheel that it's unbelievable.
The CB 1300R could spoil this effect and will probably be quite a lot more expensive as well.
My thought is that if th standard one needs upgrading it should be no problem to find another 20hp and put decent suspension and Rennsports on it.
Bet I'd not have too much trouble embarassing more than a few even with the standard one anyway - just put on the bubble screen which Honda do for it to reduce the windblast a bit.
Have you seen one ? - none on the road over here yet.

Yep, saw one this week. Pretty big bike.

Maybe I wanta streetfighter Blade, but done tastefully.

I had no trouble, on my Hooner, humbling very impressive machinery, including 748R, 998, Balde, GSXR1000, etc etc at Rockingham this week. However we were all humbled by Grant Goodings on his wife's SZR660 Yamaha Single. He demolished everybody. Having said that he did win the Manx GP and rhas ridden the TT more than a few times. So he's probably quite good LOL

It is a very beefy, blocky looking hunk of metal. The 919 still retains the sporting sensibility of it's ancestry (even though the suspension is a dog... do you UK guys have a line on suspension upgrades for the 900 Hornet?). This thing is clearly a departure from its smaller brothers. I think that it could do with a little slacker head angle for styling purposes. Give it a little more chopper-badass-attitude. More boulevard bruiser than stoppie king.

Spillover, The 900 Hornet is a bit of a rare anaimal over hear. Bit big, bit heavy, not that powerful. Probably outsold 10:1 by the 600. I'm guessing. Lovely looking bike the 900, especially in black, but it offers no real advantage over the 6 which is considered to be more sporty, much naughtier and more fun. And cheaper.

No real aftermaket industry for the 900, unlike it's little brother where you can buy aftermarket everything. Some very special specials too. There is a race series, well supported and very fiercley contested, for the 600.

The 600 is the weapon of choice for the hooligan. Er.................. I've got one

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I've got to admit that I'm very seriously interested in a CB 1300 for the reasons I've said. My track day friends are meanwhile looking at me like I've got two heads.    
I guess the deciding factor is whether or not it can function fairly well in a sport riding scenario - I'm looking for a test ride. I can't expect it to behave quite like a Blade, but on the other hand if it's stiff enough and well enough suspended to turn and track pretty well and have some clearance I think it'd get by pretty well - not race pace, but certainly faster than most track day types.
It's not slow - I gather it beat all kinds of bikes including full on sports bikes 0-60mph in a recent UK magazine test I've not yet seen.  Might even prove a bit of a sleeper bike

IF(?) they did send it here the footrests & controls would be up front like all Cruisers. The Nip m/c makers are way out of line as to what people want in North America. So far all they can think of is a Cruiser looking as close to a Hardley as they can make it, sportbikes, & dirt irons.
