have a 97 cbr 600 bought used, put a new battery on it,and it died about 20 min after riding it then i put a new voltage regulaot on it, all fine until my battery smelt bad,put a new battery and another vr and it done the same thing, says it is charging at 13.7-13.9 at 3000 rpm, could it be the stator? any way to test it, the terminals on the vr to the bike harness look corroded, would that have anything to do with it, thanks

You can check the stator by disconectig plug from R/R. Then start the bike and measure voltage between between ground and 3 yellow wires (one wire at the time). Above 4kRPM you should have anything between 45 and 55 Volts. Thats fine.
Check voltage at the battery terminals when the bike is reved and stator plug is connected to R/R. you should have about 14-15 volts when the bike is reved.
Check resistance between frame and - terminal o the battery. Check all contacts and make sure they are clean and there is no corrosion. Corrosion will create excessive resistance which may be damaging your batteries.
