Just try it yourself.
You will either have to fabricate your own subframe or combine the 600RR and 900RR subframes.
Are you going to run an underseat muffler?

I wanna do this swap too. Cant find a guide for it but I have all the tools so what the hell... I was looking and saw a guy's 96 900RR; he had swapped tails with a 06 CBR600 and it looked nasty!!!! i just don't know how difficult it would be. Its only 20 years difference right? :D

Hiya.
I have a 96 blade and have just bought the 2004 1000rr seat unit and am looking at whats needed to make the swap. I am not keen on running an underseat exhaust so will also need to manufacture, or have made, a custom under seat cowling. At first look its a bit of a job. Ive just taken pictures of the two bikes and compared them in photoshop using over drawn lines for where the subframe would have to be altered. Its a massive change really. Just waiting for some more bits to arrive and Im going to have a crack at it. Just cant decide whether to use the existing subframe whilst on the bike or buy another used one and hack that to pieces. Any thoughts?

I made a rider-only rear subframe for my 929 for racing just using 20x10mm aluminium bar and some 5mm plate and bolted it together.

I know we got different bikes But here's my project so far: http://www.fireblades.org/forums/honda-fireblade/97156-06-1000rr-tail-929-mod.html

I highly recomend sicking with modifying the stock subframe because (IMO it's easier than retrofitting the bike's frame to accept RR subframe that juts nearly horizontal out from the bike... I like the stronger design of our bikes with the four mounting points anyway.

GL!

Ive been looking at the options for fitting cbr1000rr to my 900rrt and have a dilemma. Undertray or underseat pipe. Ive spotted an underseat end can for the right money from a cbr1000rr but wonder if its possible to have this fitted to the end of the 900rr exhaust system?? Does anyone know whether this would work? I understand that the 1000rr had some kind of new exhaust trickery. It this just an end can or is it something special that wont work with the 900rr set-up?

You can use any muffler you want to, it doesn't have to be specifically for under-seat use.
You would probably have to modify your headers and have the connector pipe fabricated to fit of course.

Ive had a look at your project. Looking great.
I was originally thinking of having a piece of ally section welded between the two existing subframe tubes just under the seat, connecting them together there. Then cutting off the bottom rail and bending the upper to fit. I dont ever want a pillion so dont need any real strength there. What did you use to heat the bars prior to bending? just a hand held propane blowtorch or something more specialist?

My project?
I didn't need to do any bending or welding.
I make my subframes from aluminium bar and plate.
The underseat muffler I made for my GSXR I built from scratch using aluminium plate, bar, sheet and rod with steel baffle tube.

Matt, great project. I read on here somewhere that the cbr600rr subframe was quite an easy fix, but apparently not! Not sure which way to go, i want a small sharp tail, smaller than gsxr/R1.
