So I recently bought a 2001 CBR929. It originally didn't run, and I had to replace the FPR, Vaccum Lines, Ignition and Bank Angle sensor and Im having the forks rebuilt currently. Anyways, I went to start the bike today to show one of my friends that its running. The front end is all taken apart and the seat is off, anyways, I noticed the tank was arching from the tank to the metal clip on the battery strap and the frame.

Upon seeing this, I cut the bike off and checked the voltage from the negative terminal of the battery and one of the bolts in the gas cap. I read 12volts (positive voltage coming from the tank).

Now, Im not an expert, but I would think that either the ground from the fuel pump is bad? I cant really think of any other wiring that could charge the tank.

Or, I could be over analyzing the whole thing.

So i guess my question is it normal to be able to read a voltage from the tank? If not, any ideas as to where it could be coming from would be appreciated before I take this thing apart for the 4th time in a few weeks.

Thanks in advanced for any responses!

iirc there is an Earth Under the tank so check that first. There defo should not get 12v on the tank
Could only assume that its coming from the Fuel pump, take a look at those connections

Finally got around to pulling the tank off after work today. Sure enough, it was a ground issue. The spade connector for the ground wire was partially disconnected. Thanks for the help ya'll. I may end up doing a whole write up about this bike if anyone is interested. Its been quite a process with it so far, and maybe some people could learn from the issues I had.
