Hi,

Took my bike for a ride today and found myself on an open stretch of road, decided to stretch her legs a bit. I accelerated through all the gears and noticed that my speedometer display only went up to 180km/h (110mph) and paused there, even though the bike kept on accelerating. It kept on going all the way to 10k rpm in 6th gear.

Now... I know for a fact that my bike is a Japanese import, usually they come restricted to 180km/h? I am running a PCIII USB, I don't know if this is bypassing the 180km/h rev limiter but not rectifying the speedo display?!?

I am very confused and I am not able to find much information on the net.

Anybody have any thoughts? Hoping for a quick fix like a wire splice or something! :smilebig:

Is the speedo set to MPH perhaps?
What makes you believe it's a Jap import?
What is the first half of the VIN?

Nope, definitively km/h, runs the same as my buddy's 929 all the way up to 180km/h. Also shows km/h on the display.

Previous owner bought it from a shop here in SA that only does Japanese imports, all the warning decals (like on fuel tank) on the bike is in Japanese also. That and the fact that the reg documents shows that the bike was only registered in SA in 2009 for the first time.

What is the first half of the VIN?
SC50010XXXXX

Anyone have any suggestions?
My imported RVF only indicated up to 180Kph and then would sail on past that mark on the speedo....and I couldn't really tell how fast it was going. The speed limiter was just a presence or absence of a 12v current on a line that went to the ECU, and that was set by the speed reading in the instrument cluster. The common workaround was to rewire that line to always have 12v on it.

For the analogue RVF400R speedo, you had to replace it or at least re mark it somehow. If you have a digital unit, then it might be restricted in firmware and you might also have to replace it? Wreckers?

Sorry I cannot be of more help.
