my bike has been dieing on me randomly, mostly after wheelies and pulling in the clutch coming to a light. Ive notice when it happens looking at my tach everything goes out electrically.

Ive been doing a charging diagnoses on my bike and noticed.. my bike would charge at about 14.3v idle, holding it at 4000rpm it whent up to 18.4v then sometimes it would drop to 0.00v. BTW the battery is good and battery terminals are clean/tight, holds charge perfectly (yuasa batttery). Another thing was when i charged the battery overnight it wouldnt start at all, disconnected the 3p connector coming from the reg/rec and it started.. also tested the rec and it was good, so thinking the reg is bad.

so does this mean my reg/rec is bad? i just wanted some more input on what i should do, i already jumped the gun and bought a new reg/rec on ebay.

+1 on that. it should never get that high which is the job of the r/r. did you do the test for the r/r in the chart i posted?

Anything above 15.5DCV is BAD! That can melt wires, even start your battery on fire.
If you're sure your readings are right, you have a bad reg/rec.

Yes, finally got around to it. all 3 of the yellow wires from the stator to reg rec had around 004 005 002 volts on the diode setting of my multimeter. i tested them numerous times cause i thought i was doing it wrong. i also noticed the PO had the 3 yellow wires connected with twist connectors. :mad: its so jank. and the wires from the reg/reg to harness are burnt on the harness end. Thank you all for the replies!

Got the new reg/rec on the way, i will update as soon as possible.

i have a question about the 3 yellow wires also. can i connect those together to the reg/rec in any order or is there a certain order? only asking cause like i said the PO twist connected them together. i just want to make sure when i take it apart that if i have to have it a certain way or not.

Yes, any order on the yellow wires. Doesn't matter.

Hi guys, I am having a similar problem in my 929...
I did some tests from the service manual and got this:



What about that? Are my regulator and stator fine, but I have a short circuit somewhere? Can I test it by removing some fuses until I see the current leackage disappear?

This might help.
When testing the stator, make sure the bike is at operating temp, shut it off, unplug the stator connector at the reg/rec, restart the bike, and measure your AC Volts on the stator side of the plug. You're looking for a range of up to 80 or 90ACV. More important is consistency between all three legs. If one leg measures notably different than the other two, you have a stator problem.

Yes, but if you look at my results, I have a big current leak even with the stator/rectifier disconnected. So, I thought that this is what I should fix first, as it seems easier and cheaper. Then, if the problem persists, I could replace the stator and rectifier. What do you think?

Sorry, I understand your chart, I can see your results, and what the expected results are, but I have no idea what to do with that info.

According to the service manual, max current leak should be around 0,2 mA. Mine was 1,9 mA with rectifier connected, and 1.3 mA with rectifier disconnected. Does this eliminates the possibility of having a bad stator and rectifier?

Pretty nervous today bout the reg/rec!! Hope it gets my bike going guys, tried going to a couple rides in missouri in the last 3 months and it never happens as of work. Got another ride this weekend, and im off with a as of now non-running bike lol just my luck...

I have found something:
My normal current leak is 1,89mA.
- If I disconnect the R/R it stays at 1,29mA - therefore the R/R steals 0,60mA
- if I disconnect the last 10A fuse (I think it is the clock fuse) it stays at 0,60 mA - therefore clock steals 1,29 mA

This is pretty much my current leak. Is it normal?
