i am having a problem with my choke in that when i pull it start the bike will start for about 10 secs and then just die i move the choke in a bit more and the same thing happens. its been like this for a while and i have been using the fast idle screw to start but it would be nice to fix the choke.

also i was wondering if the choke would operate the same as a 1996 cbr600 in that with the choke on the bike will just rev.

cheers

On my bike I never need to use the choke, or throttle to start it.

I just hit the start button with the throttle completely closed and she fires up.

With the choke on I would need to give it some throttle for it to pick up, it would splutter and die if I let go of the throttle until its warm. When its warm the revs would climb quite high on their own. But like I said I never need to use it. Even mid winter.

Jon_8214, my '95 is currently doing the same exact thing as yours, if i give it choke it dies no matter what after a few seconds, until i push the choke knob back down. I had the same problem prior a couple years ago. The carbs are dirty and need to be cleaned. It can also be a vacuum leak and/or airbox leak. Check the clamps on the rubber connectors to see if they are snug.. don't overtighten them. Honda says the gap should be 10mm between the clamp ends where the screw goes through.

Also check your airfilter to see if it is dirty... do that first. Change the fuel filter too.

I haven't messed with mine yet, but plan to clean the carbs real soon. I need to quit yappin' on the www and get to fixing.
