Gatherings of 250 people or more are banned.
The government can't ban gatherings, it's unconstitutional. If we allow our rights to be violated in the name of safety once. They'll do it forever.

I'm of the half that think we're overreacting. I get it, try not to infect old people just like you do with the flu. I don't think we need to shut the world down.
Look at polio, more contagious, deadly and has lasting impacts if you survive and yet we didn't shut the world down. Every day going to school someone else wouldn't show up and everyone would know why. Someone would come in with crutches or a wheelchair and kids would hope they weren't next. That's fear, this is nonsense.

Welcome to Connecticut, it's happened, but who's going to fight it? Everyone is in such a panic from the media that they're going to just stay home and accept it.

From our governor (of whom I DID NOT vote for);

"WHEREAS, my Executive Order No. 7, dated March 12, 2020, prohibited gatherings of 250 people or more for social and recreational activities, including but not limited to, community, civic, leisure, and sporting events; parades; concerts; festivals; movie screenings; plays or performances; conventions; and similar activities, and suspended various statutes and regulations to protect public health and safety"

I agree with you, and I'm not typically a conspiracy theorist, BUT, I can't help but believe that all of this BS (the virus and the panic) is being done for a calculated, preconceived reason............

UPDATE

Just now there has been an announcement regarding the TRI-STATE area (NY, NJ, CT) closings:

From NBC Connecticut:

The governors of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York made an announcement about closings across the tri-state area amid coronavirus concerns on Monday.

Within the tri-state area, no gatherings will be allowed with more than 50 people, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said. This follows the newest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Because large events can fuel the spread of the disease, the CDC said gatherings of 50 people or more should be canceled or postponed throughout the country for the next eight weeks.

All casinos, gyms and movie theaters will also be closing at 8 p.m. on Monday, Gov. Cuomo added.

It's unclear if tribal casinos will be forced to close.

Restaurants and bars are also expected to close at 8 p.m. on Monday. Take-out services will still be available.

All of these places will remain closed until further notice.

This comes as more than 850 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the tri-state area.

You know how u know this isn't a big deal? The military, which had no need for it's people to be doing anything stateside, isn't doing anything to limit their people doing anything. Clearly this is bubkiss

Are we allowed some humour in amongst all of this ..... ?

A friend of mine went shopping the other day and commented: “Nail bars in Tesco full. Don't shake hands but must get nails done. 🤪”.

And, another friend replied: "Haha my mate's panicking in case the hairdresser closes and she can’t get her roots done 😂".

The "Blitz spirit", alive and well in parts of the UK. (y)

By all accounts the Corvid19 in itself is no worse than any other Flu , the rate at which it is passed to other people is what this is all about , and what our Governments are doing is trying to stop everyone getting it at the same time . Contagion is what its all about ,imagine if everyone got it at the same time, everything would come to a stop , rendering each country powerless, its not a death sentence , so get it , finish it , and lets get on with our lives(y)

There's no place for humor in times like these

So send all to my way, I have a free disposal service.

Countries with mandatory testing for the virus of healthy people are seeing overall morality rates under 1%. As expected, the more known cases there are, the less dangerous the disease seems. In South Korea, where they require people to be tested see a 0.6% mortality rate. In Italy, which tests 12% as any people per million as SK, it's much higher. So in SK they're catching the mild symptoms, in Italy, they're only catching the people going to the hospital.

This disease, much like Duncan's post, is all a joke.

Just goes to show how important the MMR Vaccine programmes have been.

Apparently, "Spanish Flu" was estimated to be similarly contagious to C-19.

Looking at the John Hopkins plot of infected numbers, the logarithmic plot of cases outside China is chugging steadily upwards and looks to hit 1 million in 2 or 3 weeks. So that could be 20 or 30 thousand deaths. Not enough to save the planet, but a fair attempt by Mother Nature......

In the US, clearly we're slow to test and most of the tests are on people who go to the hospital complaining about symptoms. Obviously, this is going to skew data. The same thing is happening in Italy, they're mostly testing people who require hospitalization thereby skewing the data as well.

If we look at south korea, who has the highest testing rate of any country at ~3700 per million people (US:5, Italy, 800), we see a vastly different story. Since they are testing so many people, they're finding over 90% of cases show mild to no symptoms, <5% of the overall cases require medical attention (to include medication for a sore throat or other minor issues). Their mortality rate for all cases stands at <1% (US: 3.9%, Global, 3.4%). Because SK is collecting data for all cases instead of just those most severe, we see this virus is much more benign that initial estimates when the infection started. If we only counted flu cases which required hospitalization, we'd see a much higher mortality rate as well.

TL;DR SK shows a more realistic picture of the coronavirus and it's that COVID-19 isn't very scary at <1% mortality rate. isn't science grand?

But to answer the question, the Dutch have closed schools , catering establishments, everything where people can come into close contact. Except shops. And public transport. And I'm still able to go to work, but the advice is to work from home. So no lockdown, and no intention of that, they want the less vulnerable people to get it and develop 'herd resistance' while isolating t the vulnerable. At least that's the theory. Lockdown such as we've seen in China and Italy will have devastating consequences once the lockdown is lifted and the virus is still around. At least, as devastating as something with a 3% mortality rate can be.

ALL UK schools ordered by our government to close 'indefinitely' from this Friday. End result will be no different to a teacher's strike! :D

That's hilarious! However, I will say, I always wanted Borg to beat McEnroe. I loved Borg's hair, hated McEnroe's hair (he looked like Richard Simmons out there), but loved his emotion and attitude melt downs. Made for some awesome tennis back in the day, ESPECIALLY at Wimbledon.
