On a 954 does anyone know the purpose of the other small holes in the exhaust ports? They are right next to the second exhaust valve guide of every cylinder.
Haven't had a chance to investigate where they map to where the head meets the block but they do have a hole that comes out on the block matching side of the head.

yea... at work so don't have a pic. sorry.
But if you were looking through the exhaust side header hole into the head you would see to the upper right of where the valve guide is(or left depending on which cylinder), a small sorta rectangular shaped cut out. That recessed cutout goes back into the head and comes out as about a 1/4inch round hole where the head meets the block. In their dirty state.. it's hard to think of them as anything more than just a funky cutout in the aluminum.

Assuming you're talking about the ones below the exhaust port/manifold they are for drainage of the spark plug 'hole'.

Just checked as I have my head on the bench!

def not the sparky drain holes. Those are on the outside and smaller. : )
I think the Doc has it right. I'll have to go look where the block side of those holes go now.
